Description
When loading a workflow containing nested subgraphs through the Electron UI loader, connections appear intact after loading. However, when launching a generation from the root level, connections inside the innermost subgraph get broken. The same workflow behaves correctly when:

  • Dragging and dropping a PNG image with the workflow embedded in its metadata
  • Loading the workflow via the browser at http://127.0.0.1:8188

This issue appeared after the last update.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a workflow containing nested subgraphs via the Electron UI workflow loader
  2. Connections appear correct at this stage
  3. Enter the parent subgraph and run the generation → it works correctly
  4. Go back to the root level and run the generation → connections inside the nested subgraph break at that moment

Expected behavior
Connections should remain intact regardless of the level from which the generation is launched.

Actual behavior
Connections inside nested subgraphs are intact after loading but break at the moment generation is launched from the root level via the Electron UI. The graph is likely not being flattened correctly when serialized for the backend from the root context.

Workaround

  • Load the workflow by drag & dropping a PNG image generated with that workflow
  • Use the browser interface at http://127.0.0.1:8188 instead of the Electron UI

Environment

  • ComfyUI Desktop (Electron)
  • Issue does not occur on the portable version with the same ComfyUI version and custom nodes
