Hi team,
Today I opened comfyui desktop and it told me to update, after updating I find ComfyUI-Manager menu on top screen disappered. So I checked around on Internet and download this repo like C:\Users\rj\Documents\ComfyUI\custom_nodes\comfyui-manager.

When I restart comfyui desktop there is still no comfyui-manager on screen
Console log like this, please help! Thanks

Same thing here, it just disappeared. Now I only have a red X in its place.

See Comfy-Org/desktop#1470

This isn’t the same thing, it’s just a menu for installing extensions but doesn’t provide any of the other features, such as enabling previews.

Me too. The extension manager under the menu is of no use. It won't show the missing nodes or the conflicting ones. For me, this function doesn't have any effect in resolving node failures. I hope this problem can be fixed.

I think it also removes custom nodes too. I thought this was just the UI, but my node library has many custom nodes missing. I can't search to find them either. Even though they are in my custom_nodes directory. I think these last updates essentially ended ComfyUI. I hope they fix this soon. It's currently an unusable tool for me, that's just how important custom nodes (and the manager) are :(

@LV-Soft commented on GitHub (Dec 15, 2025):

This is what I did and it worked for me:

I renamed the file
AppData\Local\Programs\ComfyUI\resources\ComfyUI\___manager_requirements.txt (I’m not really sure if this made a difference), then I renamed C:\Users\YourName\Documents\ComfyUI\.venv to C:\Users\YourName\Documents\ComfyUI\__old__.venv just to keep it as a backup — if everything goes well, you can delete it later.

Start ComfyUI and it will ask you to recreate the virtual environment; confirm that you want to do it. If you have multiple Python versions installed, you must use the same version you originally used to install ComfyUI, otherwise it won’t work.

Once the virtual environment finishes creating, ComfyUI will start normally and the Manager buttons and everything else will appear as before.

Before doing anything else, go to Manager → Custom Nodes Manager, filter by “installed”. You’ll see some nodes that say “Import Failed” or something similar. For each one, click “try fix” and restart — do this one at a time.

If during any restart ComfyUI throws an error and doesn’t start, it’s likely a permissions issue. Most likely a Python process was left running, and you need to close it from the Task Manager (this may happen once, twice, or not at all — mentioning it just in case).

After you finish fixing all nodes marked as “Import Failed”, you may notice that some nodes in your workflow say they are not installed. At that point, simply go to the node in the Manager, click Update the node, and they will work again — everything should be back to normal.

Before doing anything else, go to **Manager → Custom Nodes Manager**, filter by “**installed**”. At that point, simply go to the node in the **Manager**, click Update the node, and they will work again — everything should be back to normal.

Yes, manager_requirements.txt is essential, BUT you do not need to delete/rename your whole .venv.

This worked for me...

  1. Rename or delete manager_requirements.txt
  2. If still present, delete the comfyui-manager folder in your custom_nodes
  3. Got to "C:\Users[your_name]\Documents\ComfyUI\ .venv\Lib\site-packages"
and just delete the 'comfyui_manager' folder and the 'comfyui_manager-4.0.3b4.dist-info' folder (that's why Step1. is crucial), instead of deleting the whole .venv!
  4. Restart ComfyUI

Deleting manager_requirements.txt gives me a missing Python packages error that just hangs whenever I tell it to reinstall packages. Instead, if I edit manager_requirements.txt and delete the entry starting with "comfyui_manager", the application now loads with the UI.

Delete ComfyUI Manager from:
C:\Users\YourProfile\AppData\Local\Programs@comfyorgcomfyui-electron\resources\ComfyUI\custom_nodes

Clone the latest version:
git clone https://github.com/Comfy-Org/ComfyUI-Manager.git

Rename manager_requirements.txt to _manager_requirements.txt.

Delete the following manager files from .venv\Lib\site-packages
(the version may be different):

  • comfyui_manager-4.0.3b5.dist-info
  • comfyui_manager

Restart ComfyUI.

If you get an error asking to recreate Python or the .venv, back up the previous .venv and let it recreate everything.
Once it is done, you can restore Lib\site-packages from the old .venv just for testing.
After that, you can restore the entire old .venv again.

This worked for me. I had to overwrite the existing environment and skip the files that were already present. and again i just switched to backed up .venv and it worked.

Afaik, this is a correct but misleading message, at least when using the comfyui desktop version (aka electron), since there is a version difference to the github verfsion of comfy, which is always newer. Since the desktop version is not as up-to-date with standard fork, this message shows up.
I have the same in my comfy desktop and stopped caring - everything seems to work fine.

But I don't understand what you mean here:
"I switched to "legacy" manager to get installation from Git (which didn't work...)."
Flicking said switch will NOT clone the legacy manager's github repo into custom_nodes, but will use an already integrated version of the legacy manager.
Hope this helps somehow.

What I meant is that I needed the now "legacy" feature of installing custom nodes from Git URL (and that thing failed so I installed the nodes I needed manually).
