Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/Comfy-Org/comfy-cloud-mcp/issues/1

The upload_file and get_output tools attempt to read/write files using paths that resolve on the MCP server's filesystem rather than the client's local machine.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Call upload_file with a valid local file path (e.g., /Users/me/Downloads/photo.jpg)
  2. Observe error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/Users/me/Downloads/photo.jpg'

Same issue with get_output — it tries to save to a server-side path like /home/app/Downloads/ComfyUI/ which doesn't exist locally.

Expected behavior:

  • upload_file should read files from the client's local filesystem
  • get_output should save files to the client's local filesystem

Workaround:

  • upload_file: Pass image data via the base64_data parameter instead of file_path
  • get_output: Image data is still returned as base64 in the response, so it can be decoded and saved manually

Environment:

  • macOS (Darwin 25.2.0)
  • ComfyUI Cloud MCP via Claude Code

Thanks for the report — this is a known limitation of the remote HTTP transport. When the MCP server runs remotely (on cloud.comfy.org), file paths in upload_file and get_output resolve on the server's filesystem, not the client's.

Current workarounds:

  • upload_file: Use the base64_data parameter instead of file_path
  • get_output: The image data is returned in the response and can be saved manually

What's being fixed:
We're working on improvements to file handling that will:

  • Save output files to the client's local filesystem automatically
  • Provide clearer error messages when file paths can't be resolved
