App Version

v0.5.1

Expected Behavior

ComfyUI Desktop should start successfully and load the ComfyUI server within a reasonable timeframe (a few minutes at most).

Actual Behavior

ComfyUI Desktop v0.5.1 gets stuck at "Starting ComfyUI server..." for over an hour on macOS without progressing. See attached screenshots.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch ComfyUI Desktop v0.5.1 on Mac M3 Pro
  2. Observe the startup screen showing "Starting ComfyUI server..."
  3. Wait - the application remains stuck at this stage for over an hour

Debug Logs

Unable to access debug logs as the application is stuck at the startup screen and does not provide access to the logs directory or terminal. The app remains frozen at "Starting ComfyUI server..." without progressing to a functional state.

Browser Logs

Unable to access browser logs as the application is stuck at the startup screen and DevTools are not accessible. The app does not progress beyond the initial startup screen.

Settings JSON

Unable to access settings JSON as the application is stuck at the startup screen and does not provide access to the settings file. The app remains frozen before reaching a functional state.

Other

ComfyUI Desktop v0.5.1 gets stuck at "Starting ComfyUI server..." for over an hour on macOS.

Mac config: Apple M3 Pro | 18GB | macOS 26.0.1 (25A362)

Steps tried:

  • Confirmed system requirements (VRAM, Python, Mac version)
  • Removed custom nodes
  • Terminated all background processes
  • Attempted clean reinstall

Screenshots attached.

Request: Please advise on troubleshooting steps or any recent known issues for this config.

There are no specific known issues for ComfyUI Desktop v0.5.1 startup hangs on Mac M3 Pro or macOS 26.0.1, but the most common causes are problems with the Python virtual environment or dependency installation, especially PyTorch for Apple Silicon. The app tries to detect missing Python modules and will prompt you to reset the virtual environment if it finds a problem. If you get stuck at "Starting ComfyUI server...", try these steps:

  • Open the built-in terminal from the app's bottom panel (if accessible) to check logs and Python environment status.
  • Manually check log files in ~/Library/Application Support/ComfyUI for errors (docs).
  • Make sure PyTorch is installed for Apple Silicon and check MPS backend availability with python -c "import torch; print(torch.backends.mps.is_available())". If MPS causes issues, try forcing CPU mode: python main.py --cpu (docs).
  • If the app offers to reset the virtual environment, allow it to do so; this will delete and recreate .venv and retry startup (PR details).
  • Check your network/mirror settings for Python, PyPI, and Torch if installation stalls (docs).
  • Try different ports or disable VPN/proxy if you suspect network issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the problem may be with compatibility between the latest macOS or M3 hardware and some dependencies. Reviewing the logs (if you can access them) will help pinpoint where the startup is failing.
