The "Unable to open the base path" error in ComfyUI Desktop v0.58 is caused by new validation logic that rejects base paths inside the app install directory, updater cache, or OneDrive as unsafe. If you select a folder in one of these locations, the app will not accept it and the error will persist on restart (source).
To fix this, choose a base path outside the application directory—ideally in your Documents folder (not in OneDrive). If you previously stored models or configs inside the app folder, move them to the new base path. After selecting a valid folder, ComfyUI should start normally (source). For future upgrades, always install new versions in a separate, empty directory and use the migration option to bring over your data.
If you still see the error after picking a valid folder, check that your
extra_models_config.yamlfile (usually in your user config directory) does not point to an old or invalid base path (source). If needed, move or update this file and restart the app.Let me know if you need help recovering files or if the issue persists after following these steps.

Hey @daguang1982, this usually means your base path is in a place that's not safe for user data.
v0.5.8 included more restrictions to filepaths that ComfyUI clears/deletes on update.
There is indeed a bug where the UI does not explain this well, it should be fixed in the next update.
