We currently warn about NVIDIA drivers below the minimum (R580) during fresh install and during package update flows. However, the minimum driver requirement can change between desktop app updates, so users who already have the app installed may never see the warning.

Add a driver version check on every app start (Windows + NVIDIA only) and show the existing warning dialog if the detected driver is below the current minimum. This should run early in startup so users see it before server launch.

Acceptance:

  • On Windows + NVIDIA, if driver version < minimum, warning dialog is shown on app start.
  • No warning on non-Windows or non-NVIDIA devices.
  • Uses the same minimum version constant and parsing logic as existing install flow.

Hi, @benceruleanlu. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog and am marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • You suggested adding a check for outdated NVIDIA drivers on Windows at app startup.
  • The check would warn users if their driver is below the minimum required version.
  • The feature aims to reuse existing warning dialogs and version checks.
  • It should only trigger on Windows with NVIDIA hardware.
  • There has been no activity or comments on this issue so far.

Next Steps:

  • Please let us know if this issue is still relevant with the latest version of the desktop app by commenting here.
  • If we don’t hear back within 7 days, the issue will be automatically closed.

Thanks for your understanding and contribution!
