Installing on Windows 11 64-bit as admin user in Windows terminal, following instructions in /docs/en/README
Python Version: 3.12 with PIP 24.0

I get to the poetry install command and it crashes with the following:

  • Installing rpds-py (0.9.2): Failed

  ChefBuildError

  Backend subprocess exited when trying to invoke build_wheel

  Running `maturin pep517 build-wheel -i C:\Users\Kay\AppData\Local\Temp\tmpdc1ky66f\.venv\Scripts\python.exe --compatibility off`
  💥 maturin failed
    Caused by: Cargo metadata failed. Do you have cargo in your PATH?
    Caused by: program not found
  Error: command ['maturin', 'pep517', 'build-wheel', '-i', 'C:\\Users\\Kay\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\tmpdc1ky66f\\.venv\\Scripts\\python.exe', '--compatibility', 'off'] returned non-zero exit status 1


  at ~\AppData\Roaming\pypoetry\venv\Lib\site-packages\poetry\installation\chef.py:164 in _prepare

I have tried in Powershell and CMD but both result in the same issue, which I cannot get past.

For anyone who comes here in the future, note that the dependencies run only between python >=3.7 and <3.11
Downgrading to 3.10.3 was what got it working again.
