I've been experiencing this exact issue on Windows 11: #1546
Unless UTF-8 is enabled in the operating system's region settings, the GUI of go-realtime-gui.bat immediately freezes when the user tries to start voice generation.

Since this isn't documented anywhere, shouldn't something be done about this?
Possible solutions:

Remove the unsupported characters from the code.
Have the console display an appropriate warning message so that users know what to do.
Mention it in the README.md.

I've set the UTF-8 encoding in my system settings (win11), but it still freezes. The app is unusable.

It worked fine for me without UTF-8 enabled but recently started freezing so I tried enabling it, which didn't work. However!!! I changed my audio devices from using the WASAPI driver to Windows DirectSound and it started working again so I suggest if anyone is still having this issue try changing those and see if it works for you too.

Using the correct microphone or speaker is a thing too, mine also freezes before I use the correct device, but the I haven't see the result yet, cause I m remoting my own pc at home from office
