Even though I was able to download it earlier today, my computer randomly marked Kemono-Downloader as a virus and will delete the files off of my computer before I can even open them. I've tried to go through my settings to enable the downloading of it, but nothing will work. I'm at a loss on what to do.
@Yuvi9587 commented on GitHub (May 31, 2026):
Option 1: Add a Folder Exclusion in Windows Security (Recommended)
Rather than disabling your antivirus completely, it's much safer to tell Windows Security to ignore the folder where Kemono-Downloader is stored.
D:\Kemono-Downloader)..exedirectly into that folder.After doing this, Windows Defender should stop deleting or quarantining the file because it will ignore everything inside the excluded folder.
If Windows has already removed the file:
You can open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history, find the blocked item, and choose Restore or Allow on device.
Option 2: Run the Application from Source Code
Since Kemono-Downloader is open source, you don't have to use the compiled
.exefile at all.You can:
Install Python on your computer.
Download or clone the source code from GitHub.
Open a terminal in the project folder and install the required dependencies:
Start the application with:
Because you'll be running the original Python scripts instead of a packaged executable, antivirus software is much less likely to flag or remove anything.
If you run into any issues while setting up the exclusion or running from source, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help.
