8310b2d5d3 Optimize bli_arch_query_id and related functions
bli_arch_query_id() is used to select kernels in optimized BLAS APIs. Previous
implementation incurred the overhead of multiple function calls. This has
been reduced by:
- Changing the function to be defined in a header file so it can be inlined.
- Avoiding call to bli_arch_check_id_once that was a wrapper for a call to
bli_pthread_once. Instead bli_pthread_once is called directly.
- For builds with a single BLIS sub-configuration, correct arch_id is taken
directly from a header file in the corresponding config subdirectory,
avoiding the bli_pthread_once call and making the value explicit at
compile time, which may enable additional optimizations.

To enable these changes, the variables arch_id and model_id defined in
frame/base/bli_arch.c are no longer static, as they must be accessed in multiple
files (i.e. they are now global variables). Rename to g_arch_id and g_model_id
to distinguish from any locally defined arch_id or model_id variables.

d0a0b4b841 Arm micro-architecture dispatch (#344)
Details:
- Reworked support for ARM hardware detection in bli_cpuid.c to parse
the result of a CPUID-like instruction.
- Added a64fx support to bli_gks.c.
- #include arm64 and arm32 family headers from bli_arch_config.h.
- Fix the ordering of the "armsve" and "a64fx" strings in the
config_name string array in bli_arch.c. The ordering did not match
the ordering of the corresponding arch_t values in bli_type_defs.h,
as it should have all along.
- Added clang support to make_defs.mk in arm64, cortexa53, cortexa57
  subconfigs.
- Updated arm64 and arm32 families in config_registry.
- Updated docs/HardwareSupport.md to reflect added ARM support.
- Thanks to Dave Love, RuQing Xu, and Devin Matthews for their
  contributions in this PR (#344).

7d41128219 Use -O2 for all framework code. (#435)
It seems that -O3 might be causing intermittent problems with the f2c'ed packed and banded code. -O3 is retained for kernel code. Fixes #341 and fixes #342.

9c5b485d35 Don't override -mcpu with -march on ARM (#353)
* Use -mcpu for ARM
See the GCC doc about -march, -mtune, and -mpu and maybe
https://community.arm.com/developer/tools-software/tools/b/tools-software-ides-blog/posts/compiler-flags-across-architectures-march-mtune-and-mcpu

* Fix typo in flags

* Fix typo in cortexa9 flags

* Modify cortexa53 compilation flags to fix failing BLAS check (#341)

138d403b6b Use -funsafe-math-optimizations and -ffp-contract=fast for all reference kernels when using gcc or clang. (#331) 2019-08-26 18:11:27 -05:00

0645f239fb Remove UT-Austin from copyright headers' clause 3.
Details:
- Removed explicit reference to The University of Texas at Austin in the
third clause of the license comment blocks of all relevant files and
replaced it with a more all-encompassing "copyright holder(s)".
- Removed duplicate words ("derived") from a few kernels' license
  comment blocks.
- Homogenized license comment block in kernels/zen/3/bli_gemm_small.c
with format of all other comment blocks.

fb81c7fc66 Defined cortexa53 sub-configuration.
Details:
- Added a new sub-configuration 'cortexa53', which is a mirror image
of cortexa57 except that it will use slightly different compiler
flags. Thanks to Mathieu Poumeyrol for making this suggestion after
discovering that the compiler flags being used by cortexa57 were
not working properly in certain OS X environments (the fix to which
is currently pending in pull request #245).
