Hi team,

Following up on Discussion #2356 (15 Mar, 4 upvotes), which has been open without a maintainer reply for about 35 days. Filing as an Issue with the documentation label per the repo's existing classification — hopefully easier to triage than an [Ideas] discussion.

Why a docs section is worth it

A repeating pattern shows up across this repo and adjacent forums — users want CLI / headless AmneziaWG on Linux servers, separate from the desktop client:

  • #850 "Headless installation & CLI interface?" — 81 reactions, open since June 2024
  • Discussion #2124 "Debian 13 / Kernel Module tutorial"
  • Discussion #2470 "client-to-client over AWG2.0 own VPS" — Q&A, 13 days silence
  • forum.qubes-os.org/t/39005 — 2.4k views
  • Same questions surface in Reddit r/AmneziaVPN and ntc.party

Right now docs.amnezia.org doesn't point readers anywhere for self-hosted server setup, so people reinvent the wheel.

Concrete proposal

Add a short "Community Tools" section under the existing server docs. Draft:

Community Tools

For Linux administrators who prefer command-line setup over the desktop client, the community maintains several tools:

  • amneziawg-installer (Bash, Ubuntu/Debian + ARM) — one-command kernel-native server install with client management, vpn:// QR import, mobile-carrier DPI preset
  • amneziawg-go — userspace implementation for environments without kernel modules (LXC, restricted hosts)
  • amneziawg-tools — awg / awg-quick CLI utilities

Affiliation

I maintain amneziawg-installer (one of the tools listed). Happy to submit a PR with this section + descriptions, or just provide the content for your team to integrate.

How do I use vless if I deployed amneziawg-go and amneziawg-tools on a Raspberry Pi (ARM)?
What is amneziawg-installer (... Debian + ARM)?

@igr-noob - VLESS and AmneziaWG are separate stacks, so a quick clarification:

  • VLESS is an Xray/v2ray protocol, not part of amneziawg-go / amneziawg-tools. You don't run VLESS "through" AmneziaWG - the Amnezia client app just bundles several protocols and lets you pick one per server. The WG tools themselves only speak AmneziaWG.

  • amneziawg-installer is a server-side bash installer I maintain for headless AmneziaWG 2.0 on dedicated Ubuntu / Debian servers, ARM included. It sets up amneziawg-go + amneziawg-tools, generates configs / QR / vpn:// URIs and a manage CLI. On a Raspberry Pi it gives you an AmneziaWG server, not a VLESS one.

This is actually a good example of why a Community Tools section would help - the CLI / headless path isn't obvious from the client docs today. If you specifically want VLESS on ARM, that's Xray-core territory (a different project).
