Describe the bug
Linux client breaks youtube videos.
/videoplayback fail with status (canceled) in chrome and NS_BINDING_ABORTED in Firefox.
Switching to a different vpn client fixes the problem (selfhosted ss).

To Reproduce

  1. have Arch Linux
  2. Connect to AmneziaVPN (XRay or AWG)
  3. Play YT video
  4. Infinite loading
  5. Open DevTools
  6. See canceled requests

Expected behavior
Requests not getting canceled or NS_BINDING_ABORTED

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Linux 7.0.10-arch1-1
  • Version 4.8.15.4

Additional notes
Works fine on android for example with the same exact server.
Also Twitch is working fine as well.
Just something with youtube specifically.
I've also noticed that Steam pages would get certificate invalid issues first minute after connecting the VPN (???), not sure if it's related.

@qwelias

This may not be a YouTube-specific issue.

The Steam certificate warnings right after connecting the VPN suggest there could be a broader DNS or routing problem on Linux. Since the same VPN server works correctly on Android, I would first investigate Linux-specific networking behavior rather than the VPN protocol itself.

A few things worth checking:

  • Test with all browser extensions disabled, especially ad blockers (uBlock Origin, AdGuard, etc.).
  • Verify which DNS servers are actually being used after connecting to the VPN.
  • Try DNSCrypt or a different DNS configuration and compare the results.
  • Check for IPv4/IPv6 routing inconsistencies.
  • Compare DNS, routing, and MTU settings against your self-hosted Shadowsocks setup, which works correctly.

The combination of canceled /videoplayback requests, NS_BINDING_ABORTED, and temporary certificate validation issues makes DNS or routing behavior a more likely suspect than YouTube itself.
