Linux Mint 6 "Faye" LMDE 6 Debian 12 - KillSwitch Bug & DNS Leaks

Bug Description

When using the AmneziaVPN desktop client on LMDE 6 to connect to Amnezia Free or a third-party configuration, the following issues occur:

  • With the kill switch enabled, a successful connection results in no internet access.
  • With the kill switch disabled, a successful connection provides internet access, but DNS leaks are detected.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install or boot the live version of LMDE 6 from a USB stick.
  2. Install the AmneziaVPN client using the package AmneziaVPN_4.8.7.2_linux_x64.tar.zip.
  3. Launch AmneziaVPN and connect to Amnezia Free or a third-party configuration.
  4. Observe that the connection is successful but no internet access is available.
  5. Disconnect from the VPN, then disable the kill switch in the options menu.
  6. Connect again and verify that internet access is restored.
  7. Test for DNS leaks using a service like ipleak.net and observe that your ISP's DNS servers are being leaked.

Expected Behavior

  • Adding server credentials and tapping connect should provide internet access with the kill switch enabled, as it does on Linux Mint 22.1 (Ubuntu based).

Desktop :

  • OS: Linux Mint 6 "Faye" LMDE 6 based on Debian 12, 64-bit
  • AmneziaVPN Version: 4.8.7.2 (AmneziaVPN_4.8.7.2_linux_x64.tar.zip)

Server:

  • N/A - Using Amnezia Free and a third-party Vless X-Ray commercial VPN service

The AUR package is built from the official installer (uses binaries/services/other files from it), so functionally it is no different from the official one (has the same bugs). The only difference is who keeps track of installed files, pacman or Qt Installer Framework.

Yeah I know, just wanted to bump and mention it. Thanks for making the AUR package!

I fixed the issue of no internet access when the kill switch is enabled by indicating my connection DNS servers in DNS Exceptions in Amnezia app.
