Description:
Currently, the Amnezia VPN iOS client does not automatically reconnect when the VPN connection is dropped (for example, when the server becomes unavailable or the device switches networks). This can leave the device unprotected and requires manual user action to restore the connection.

Proposed solution:
• Implement an automatic reconnection mechanism that attempts to reconnect to the last used server if the VPN tunnel is unexpectedly closed.
• Ideally, the reconnection attempts could follow an exponential backoff strategy (e.g., retry after 5 s, 15 s, 30 s, etc.) to balance reliability and battery consumption.
• Optionally, include a toggle in the app settings (“Auto-Reconnect on Drop”) so users can enable or disable this behavior as needed.

Why this is important:
• It significantly improves reliability and security, as users are often unaware the VPN has disconnected.
• Competing VPN apps (e.g., RedShieldVPN) already offer similar functionality, which makes them more convenient for continuous protection and automation.

Which hosting? Most likely you have the same problem as me:

I faced the problem on three different hosting providers. And yeah - aeza was one of them

I also tried Amnesia Premium and faced the same problem - app can't maintain connection long period of time, you have to turn VPN on from time to time

Do you have ios26?

Also does this happen often when you disconnect from a wifi and the mobile data turns on?

Can confirm problems with keeping VPN connection alive, silent disconnects occur on every Android device I and my friends use. Might be Android energy saving issue, although Amnezia is set to Unrestricted / Not optimized. Might be NAT / firewall issue. But Amnezia definitely needs some connection monitoring and reconnection capabilities, since this issue is very common (#2149, #1857, #2155).

I added persistentKeepAlive=15 inside the container in awg0. conf. The connection no longer drops. If anyone has the same issue, this works as a temporary solution. Hope it works for you.

PersistentKeepalive = 15 (or 10, 5) doesn't help. We need reconnect feature if connection is lost or changed.

Adding PersistentKeepalive = 15 to the config did not resolve the issue. The problem still persists.
I tested this on multiple devices with different iOS versions, and the behavior is consistent:
when switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi, the VPN does not properly reconnect.

Environment:
Device: iPhone 17 Pro Max
OS: iOS 26.4 beta 4
App: Amnezia for iOS
Version: 4.8.14.3 (Mar 3 2026, aea8ff49)
