Hi,

When installing amneziawg via PPA on Ubuntu 24.04 (AWS), DKMS fails to build because the sources for version 2.0.0 are missing.

Problem

DKMS shows the following error:

Error! The directory /var/lib/dkms/amneziawg/2.0.0/source does not appear to have module source located within it.

Contents of /usr/src/amneziawg-2.0.0:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 148 Oct 3 19:31 dkms.conf

Only dkms.conf exists, no source files.

As a result, the module cannot be compiled.

Environment

  • Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (AWS)

  • Kernel: 6.14.0-1014-aws

  • Installed via:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:amnezia/ppa
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install amneziawg

  • DKMS output:

Error! The directory /var/lib/dkms/amneziawg/2.0.0/source does not appear to have module source located within it.

Possible cause

  • dkms.conf sets PACKAGE_VERSION="2.0.0", but actual sources are not shipped in /usr/src/amneziawg-2.0.0.
  • Likely caused by commit b0db37d which changed DKMS packaging logic (removed/changed prepare-sources.sh).

Suggested fix

  • Ensure full source tree is included in the PPA package under /usr/src/amneziawg-2.0.0.
  • Or revert PACKAGE_VERSION to 1.0.0 if sources are not yet updated to 2.0.0.
  • Alternatively, restore proper source preparation scripts for DKMS packaging.

Thanks for maintaining the project!

Same, Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS.

PS looks like fixed in 8a55ceb, but amnezia/ppa still provides old version :(

Hi
Thanks for reporting the issue. The changes are done already, PPA synced as well
Please try once again after issuing sudo apt-get update
