Unfortunately, AmneziaWG kernel module which has been compiled on any specific kernel version can be copied and registered on any other kernel version but cannot be started on them (even they are minor and subminor versions).
For comparison, classic WireGuard kernel module do can be started on any minor and subminor versions.
The problem is in that after update of kernel and after reboot with new kernel version the AmneziaWG kernel module must be rebuilt (there is no problem with rebuilding of AmneziaWG kernel module on any kernel version).
@ygurov commented on GitHub (Dec 29, 2025):
Hi
The big benefit of a classic wireguard is it was merged in linux kernel. Since that, WG is a part of the kernel, and every single kernel ships with WG included, nothing needs to be installed at all.
I am afraid we cannot offer ourselves to maintain it within the mainline because of huge resources requirements and lack of flexibility there. So this module would remain a module so far, unfortunately.
