Can’t compile kernel module on Raspberry Pi - missing
net/gso.hfrom sources, although it's in place.Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
Kernel: Linux 6.1.21-v8+
Architecture: arm64
Looking into the log file:
Attempted to build manually:
Of course
net/gso.his in its place inside the kernel source tree.Thank you!
@myanshin commented on GitHub (Aug 30, 2024):
The same problem here. Raspberry PI, Debian 12. Is amneziawg supposed to work on Arm 64?
@ntoskernel commented on GitHub (Sep 6, 2024):
same here
@leninalive commented on GitHub (Sep 15, 2024):
@1Godhell you seems to be building against kernel version higher than installed (current branch in https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux repo is rpi-6.6.y while you are building on 6.1 kernel).
Obtain relevant kernel source by specifying branch in
git clonecommand like-b rpi-6.1.y.@int-0x03 commented on GitHub (Oct 11, 2024):
Tried to do this, got the same problem: net/gso.h No such file or directory. Raspberry Pi OS
@NikitaCartes commented on GitHub (Nov 25, 2024):
It works with vanilla Debian on Hetzner. So problem in Raspbian I think
@int-0x03 commented on GitHub (Nov 25, 2024):
I tried to use legacy (user mode) implemetation and this works ok. It sufficient for my goals, no required super fast connection.
At the same time, I was'nt notice difference between kernel and usermode iplementation.
@NikitaCartes commented on GitHub (Nov 26, 2024):
I found a way to install it.
Check the following repositories:
a) Check your kernel version:
b) Search for the correct version of the kernel source:
c) Install the source code:
d) Verify where the source code is saved:
Usually, it will be located at:
Execute the following steps:
Notes
<version>with the actual kernel version or package name.build-essential,gcc) are installed before building the module.@vanyasem commented on GitHub (Dec 10, 2024):
Here's what I used to install
amneziawgDebian package on RPi:raspberrypi-kernel-headershas to be installed prior to installingamneziawg, otherwiseaptpicks incorrect linux headers when installing dependenciesdeb-srclines have to be uncommented in sources, however uncommentingdeb-srclines insources.listis not enough. You have to uncommentdeb-srclines in/etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.listalso, as RPi's kernel sources are provided by sources inraspi.listThe rest of the installation has been taken from https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-linux-kernel-module/pull/27, as the official installation instructions are flawed.
@vanyasem commented on GitHub (Dec 10, 2024):
The original issue is also related to
raspberrypi-kernel-headers, as apt selects debian's 6.1 kernel by default unless you haveraspberrypi-kernel-headersinstalledSee https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/141103/why-does-apt-install-linux-headers-generic-install-old-headers-for-the-newest
@vanyasem commented on GitHub (Dec 10, 2024):
The error itself is due to the fact that in Linux 6.4.10
skb_gso_segmentfunction has been moved to a new file callednet/gso.h: https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/issues/204The outdated sources (6.1) don't have that change, while RPi's kernel (6.6) has it. The mismatch between the two trigger the error.
@VirtualTim commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
@vanyasem I'm following your guide here (https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-linux-kernel-module/issues/18#issuecomment-2530142240), and there's one minor mistake.
You have
sudo apt -y install gnupg2., it should besudo apt -y install gnupg2(without the trailing.).Not a big deal, but I thought I'd let you know. Hopefully this works...
@vanyasem commented on GitHub (Jul 31, 2025):
@VirtualTim thank you for pointing that out!
I removed the trailing

My earlier PR wasn't accepted at the time, though interestingly the project has since partly moved in that direction on its own. With Debian 13 introducing a new package format, I saw a good opportunity to revisit the topic and submitted a new PR: https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-linux-kernel-module/pull/134
But I'm glad that even my rejected PR was able to help you :-)
