The same issue consistently happens on:

Linux bb-0 6.1.0-32-cloud-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.129-1 (2025-03-06) x86_64 GNU/Linux

When running:

root@bb-0:/tmp# awg-quick up awg0
[#] ip link add awg0 type amneziawg
[#]
[#] awg setconf awg0 /dev/fd/63
Unable to modify interface: No space left on device
[#] ip link delete dev awg0

Installed packages:

root@bb-0:/tmp# apt list --installed|grep amnezia

amneziawg-dkms/now 1.0.0-0~202411151001+7e7dfca~ubuntu20.04.1 all [installed,upgradable to: 1.0.0-0~202506030006+b91faba~ubuntu20.04.1]
amneziawg-tools/focal,now 1.0.20210914-0~202507041404+4c12402~ubuntu20.04.1 amd64 [installed]
amneziawg/focal,now 1.0.20210914-0~202507041404+4c12402~ubuntu20.04.1 all [installed]

Reverting to:
amneziawg-tools=1.0.20210914-0~202410011334+c0b400c~ubuntu20.04.1
completely solves the issue, even without changing amneziawg-dkms.

Please investigate regression in amneziawg-tools released in 2025-07.

My workaround:

apt remove amneziawg
apt remove amneziawg-tools

Go to https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/amnezia/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/a/amneziawg/
Download amneziawg-tools_202410011335 deb package and install it using apt install ./your_downloaded_file.deb
Download amneziawg_202410011335 deb package and install it using apt install ./your_downloaded_file.deb

Choose deb packege according to your architecture and Ubuntu version!!!
In my case it was ubuntu22.04 amd64

After doing the above described rollback, I have encountered handshake problems.

New version of amneziawg-tools messes up with config files a bit.

What I saw in the server config (in my case):

Jc = X
Jmin = XX
Jmax = XX
S1 = XX
S2 = XXX
H1 = XXXXXXXXXX
H2 = XXXXXXXXX
H3 = 3
H4 = 4

What should have been:

Jc = X
Jmin = XX
Jmax = XX
S1 = XX
S2 = XXX
H1 = XXXXXXXXXX
H2 = XXXXXXXXX
H3 = XXXXXXXXXX
H4 = XXXXXXXXXX

You can take the correct numbers from the client configs.

Shame on the Amnezia team for rolling out such a big release on the Friday evening.

Same issue this morning.

Falling back to 202410011334 solved all problems.

Observed both on Debian 9 and 12, although somehow Linux 6.1.0-33-amd64 - seems immune to this.

That being said Linux 6.1.0-33-amd64 - works ok, Linux 6.1.0-37-amd64 - fails.

Tried to pull the new fix (27 with

git clone https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-tools.git
make -C amneziawg-tools/src

on Linux 6.1.0-33-amd64 with 202507041404 amnezia-tools installed and got this error

Unable to modify interface: No space left on device

Can't even fallback with sudo apt-get install amneziawg=1.0.20210914-0~202410011335+c0b400c~ubuntu22.04.1 since it requires amneziawg-dkms and it failed to compile with the latest version. And when i try to fallback amneziawg-dkms to 1.0.0-0~202411151000+7e7dfca~ubuntu22.04.1 the PPA no longer has it :(

I was able to revert back to the older build. Please let me know if it has any issues and I can help troubleshoot. I can attempt to fix the parser within the main code but am a bit busy at the moment.

# 1) Remove the broken tools package
sudo apt remove --purge amneziawg-tools

# 2) Clone the repo & check out the Oct-2024 release
cd /tmp
git clone https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-tools.git
cd amneziawg-tools
git fetch --tags
git checkout v1.0.20241018

# 3) Build both the core tool and the quick-script
cd src
make

# 4) Remove any stray installs in /usr/bin
sudo rm -f /usr/bin/awg /usr/bin/awg-quick

# 5) Install your freshly-built binaries into /usr/local/bin
sudo install -m755 wg                         /usr/local/bin/awg
sudo install -m755 wg-quick/linux.bash        /usr/local/bin/awg-quick

# 6) Ensure they’re executable
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/awg /usr/local/bin/awg-quick

# 7) Prevent apt from ever re-installing the broken package
sudo apt-mark hold amneziawg-tools

# 8) Verify you’re now running the Oct-’24 version
type -a awg-quick
awg-quick --version

# 9) Test bringing up your tunnel
sudo awg-quick up awg0

Once amneziawg-tools is fixed you can run this below to be able to update it.

sudo apt-mark hold amneziawg-tools

Your config works for me: Although I downloaded the source and built it on Arch for myself, but the released Ubuntu build shouldld also work. Everything is as it was for the previous working build.

I think the latest version has a parsing error causing the error with the address being read

We're aware of what caused the issue and currently we're doing other feature development. This will be fixed with when the other feature will be merged.

But thank you :)

Ok, now they just deleted 2024 versions from repository! Why????? 2 Amnezia repository maintaners: Please, don't delete old releases from repository! Just left a few older versions for each architecture and OS!

Try this link: https://launchpad.net/amnezia/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+files/amneziawg-tools_1.0.20210914-0202410011334+c0b400c~ubuntu20.04.1_amd64.deb

The one you sent previously is 404

Can i see all available old(archive) versions somehow?
Tried https://launchpad.net/~amnezia/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+files/ with no luck

is an open-source project, you can build any version from source with any edits. But I don't really understand why you need a build from 2024, if the latest build is absolutely identical to the version from 2024. Look at the commit history, all AWG 1.5 changes have been reverted.

I fixed and know what the issue was with the

Jul 04 17:44:02 vpn awg-quick[7413]: Unable to parse IP address: ` 188.0.0.228'

I'm sadly unable to reproduce the issue

Jul 05 04:25:58 vps91092631 awg-quick[1263]: Unable to modify interface: No space left on device

@pohnamor or @kundulun can you send me your config that resulted in this error?
I pushed the changes to the https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-tools/tree/feature/awg-fix branch. If you want to try it out.

Thank you @pohnamor for sending your config!
Unfortunately, I couldn't reproduce it.
Can you please try if it happens for the fixed version? You can download it from my forked repo
https://github.com/marko1777/amneziawg-tools/releases/tag/v1.0.0-beta

My best guess is that this happened because of repeated attempts to configure the interface. But I'm uncertain.

If it does happen, can you also post dmesg | tail ?
