Why even configuration stored in app directory?
@arisudesu commented on GitHub (Jan 15, 2026):
If you ask why isn't it user-level configuration, this is because network configuration is the system-level property, and tunnels are managed by the background service; it literally needs it to be in a directory reachable with the service privileges. In addition to that, tunnels can only be managed by users in the Administrator group.
If you need to know, why is this specifically an installation directory, I don't know. Maybe because it's sane default? It seems that you can override it to some extent: https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-windows-client/blob/master/docs/enterprise.md#manager-service
@mbystryantsev commented on GitHub (Jan 15, 2026):
Looks more like workaround as easiest way. As I know, there are dedicated directories for this, like
ProgramData.Anyway, configurations are manually editing by user and should not be silently deleted.
