@cylonid commented on GitHub (Apr 21, 2025):
Thanks for the detailed report. Apparently it is failing while reading the global settings from permanent store.
Can you provide further details about the usage scenario? Are you coming from a fresh installation, did you just upgrade from the previous public release or did you possibly apply an older backup?
@GlytchMeister commented on GitHub (Apr 21, 2025):
Just upgraded from previous public release
@SermanGavin commented on GitHub (Apr 21, 2025):
Same instant crash on FP5.
Ive used the appnfor ages. Update via obtanium. Force stop the all but same issue. Not sure now to get the log.
Android 14.
FP5.UT2K.B.098.20250109
Non root.
V1.5.0
@cylonid commented on GitHub (Apr 24, 2025):
@GlytchMeister Would you be willing to try a debug version and provide me with the produced log to get further insights?
The problem itself can of course be circumvented easily, but I am still unsure whether your global settings on disk are malformed or missing. If there is a way they became malformed, I need to do some further investigation.
@SermanGavin commented on GitHub (Apr 25, 2025):
Yeah sure.
Just let me know how to generate the logs.

I can, if it crashes reliably enough to get Graphene OS to do the "this app keeps closing, what do you want to do" thing that pulls up the log.
@cylonid commented on GitHub (Apr 26, 2025):
Well, the shared version includes an attempted fix, so ideally it does not crash any more.
Please give me feedback whether this version still closes at the same point.
And if you are slightly familiar with
adb(which custom ROM users usually are), then I'd ask anyone who is affected to share the logs you obtain with the commandadb logcat -s "SHARED_PREF". Unfortunately, I do not have any established hassle-free way of sharing logs in place at the moment... But it is not difficult if adb is set up, just use the mentioned command and then start the app on your device. Thank you!NativeAlpha-extendedGithub-universal-release-v1.5.1xbeta.zip
@SermanGavin commented on GitHub (Apr 26, 2025):
I installed over the top and the issue instantly went away. Everything is working fine and all my settings are still there.
Thanks.

Last time I had to download and install a different version of the same app over top of a broken one, I lost everything related to that app because the only way I could install it was by uninstalling the old version.
If you release this as a beta release that I can download and install with Obtanium without having to fight my phone, I'll be able to test by just telling Obtanium to include pre-releases or whatever.
@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 12, 2025):
Same problem here with Android 12 on Galaxy S10. Unfortunately the release v1.5.1xbeta cannot be installed, maybe the wrong CPU architecture? The app closes within the first second after starting. Perhaps it would also be a great help to make a slightly older version available.
@GlytchMeister commented on GitHub (May 12, 2025):
1.5.1 fixed it for me
@citizenserious commented on GitHub (May 13, 2025):
I am having this issue with v1.5.1.
I tried to log the “crash” with Scoop, but it does not log anything and Android does not show a classic crash.
It looks like as if it goes to the background.
The app Android Manager shows it as still running, but it is not usable.
Unfortunately I can not export the settings to start from scratch.
@cylonid commented on GitHub (May 14, 2025):
I'd like to help here, it's however difficult without further information.
What is sure is that you are not suffering exactly the same bug as the OP here, it is fixed in v1.5.1
Can you confirm your issues started from v1.5.0? @citizenserious
As there are not many actions done immediately after app start it is most likely about the new adblock engine or loading the app data (which was the culprit here in this issue).
@rr19-hub You cannot install the beta because it is older than the current stable release. If you are still experiencing crashes on v1.5.1, it is another issue.
@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 14, 2025):
I have indeed installed version 1.5.1, but I don't know exactly whether I already had problems with 1.5.0. I have assigned all the authorizations. I have no idea whether this will help:
@citizenserious commented on GitHub (May 14, 2025):
To test this, I downgraded to v1.5.0 →same behavior
Then I downgraded to v1.4.0 and the issue is gone but I cannot open all Web-Apps without a crash:
Nevertheless, in v1.4.0 I was able to export the settings.
I cleared the storage, upgraded to v1.5.1 and imported everything.
Which seems to have worked for now.
I hope this kind of random information is useful anyway.
@cylonid commented on GitHub (May 14, 2025):
@citizenserious Okay, good to know. If it still crashed, I'd have asked if you would be willing to send me your backup (which contains no sensitive data, it's just the web app list with your Native Alpha settings), but if it does not any more, then it's not really necessary.
About your log, this is unlikely to be related. I assume you activated sandboxing for some Web Apps when you were on v1.5.x and then re-imported the backup on the public v1.4.0 release? This will not work since v1.4.0 does not have sandbox capabilities. The crash shown in the log is related to sandboxing.
@cylonid commented on GitHub (May 18, 2025):
@rr19-hub Maybe you can re-try with the new release. I assume it will still crash initially. If the adblock config is responsible for the crash (which I assume as most likely), you should get a prompt to reset adblock lists after the next start.
@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 19, 2025):
Thank you very much, i'll get back to you after the next release. regardless of this, a simple backup function would be extremely helpful in such cases. Even if only the URLs were backed up ;-)

@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 19, 2025):
Uuups, I forgot this button, sorry 🙈
But I installed the 1.5.2 this minute – it works again (not all apps, but most, I'll see)!!!
And I made a Backup, it's great!! Thank you very much!
@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 19, 2025):
The app no longer crashes (except sometimes after a long-tab), but most pages no longer open. Then the screen stays black and hangs. I have stopped the app, cleared the cache several times and restarted the device, but nothing helps. When it crashes, the system-error message ‘error occurred at Native Alpha’ appears.
Now I'm trying to copy the URLs, but unfortunately they can't be extracted from the backup or selected in the settings. As the pages can no longer be opened at the same time, I can hardly create a backup manually. I actually wanted to uninstall the app and set it up again entry by entry.
The problematic pages are mostly frames with java and maps like:
@cylonid commented on GitHub (May 21, 2025):
@rr19-hub Did you get a prompt asking you to reset your adblock lists any time? What is your adblock config?
As last resort, I am not sure why you cannot create a backup and start over with a fresh install? What do you mean by
? What do you want to extract, and why...? The backup file contains your list of Web Apps as well as all your settings. It is fully integrated and if you re-import, you will get all your Native Alpha config as before. Of course, logins, cookies etc. are not retained.
I doubt it has something to do with the pages itself. The Web Apps in question will most likely contain a certain setting which causes the crash, and those which don't crash, well, don't. If you still have problems after a full reset and re-importing the backup, it'd be highly interested in your backup file if you are willing to share.
@rr19-hub commented on GitHub (May 22, 2025):
Sorry for my late answer. Yes, I get an answer on starting the app:

I think it makes no difference tapping OK or cancel. And I never had adlists activated, because I already use NetGuard (with adlist).
When i try to open a url as above, the screen stays black and later this error message appears at the bottom:
And about 30 minutes later, the system warns you that NativeAlpha is consuming a lot of power in the background and offers standby.
With 'backup of urls' I mean the option to copy the url manually in the edit-dialogue. I don't want to maybe loose some of the URLs with reinstall and recovery. I haven't tried a new installation yet because I wanted to back up the URLs manually first, but maybe I'll try the normal backup.

Encountering the same problem as previous comment on LineageOS 20 (Android 13), LogFox captures the following backtrace:

I have stock adblock settings.
