📄 Description

In certain vendor/datacenter RDMA environments, there may exist RDMA virtualization or InfiniBand (IB) device naming conventions are non-uniform (e.g., dynamic device allocation and naming within containers). To address this beyond static device name specification, propose extending a simplified regex-like matching mechanism with three modes:

  • Empty string or full match
  • ^ prefix for exclusion matching
  • * suffix for pattern matching

This would enable flexible device selection in dynamic environments like containerized deployments.

Example use case:

  1. Match all devices starting with ib0: ib0*
  2. Exclude devices with mlx prefix: ^mlx
  3. Match any device (wildcard): *
