name: Feature request
title: "Add folder/space functionality to organize chats (like Perplexity Spaces)"

Problem

Currently, all chats in DeepSeek are displayed in a flat list. For active users who use DeepSeek for work, study, and personal life simultaneously, this becomes chaotic and hard to navigate. Important conversations get buried, and it's difficult to maintain context when switching between unrelated topics.

Proposed Solution

Add hierarchical organization with folders/spaces:

  1. Create folders/groups/spaces for different life areas (e.g., "Work", "Study", "Personal")
  2. Multiple chats inside each folder for specific subtopics
  3. Collapsible/expandable folders in the sidebar
  4. Drag-and-drop to move chats between folders
  5. Rename, delete folders with all contained chats

Real-world Use Cases

Work Scenario

  • Folder: "Project Alpha"
    • Chat: "System Architecture Discussion"
    • Chat: "Bug Fixes & Issues"
    • Chat: "Team Meeting Notes"
  • Folder: "Project Beta"
    • Chat: "Frontend Development"
    • Chat: "API Design"

Study Scenario

  • Folder: "Machine Learning Course"
    • Chat: "Neural Networks Lectures"
    • Chat: "Homework Assignments"
    • Chat: "Exam Preparation"
  • Folder: "Thesis Research"
    • Chat: "Literature Review"
    • Chat: "Methodology Discussions"

Personal Scenario

  • Folder: "Travel Planning"
    • Chat: "Italy Trip 2024"
    • Chat: "Budget Planning"
  • Folder: "Health & Wellness"
    • Chat: "Workout Routines"
    • Chat: "Meal Planning"

Why This Matters

  • Organization: Keeps conversations structured and searchable
  • Context Preservation: Prevents mixing unrelated topics in one chat
  • Efficiency: Faster access to relevant conversations
  • Professional Use: Essential for power users managing multiple projects

Bonus Features (Nice to Have)

  • Shared knowledge base/files within a folder (like Perplexity Spaces)
  • Share entire folders with team members
  • Folder-level instructions or system prompts

Current Workarounds

I'm currently using prefixes like "[WORK]" in chat titles, but this is just a visual hack, not real organization.

Similar Implementations

  • Perplexity AI: "Spaces" feature
  • ChatGPT: Folders feature (in some implementations)
  • Most modern messaging apps: chat folders

Thank you for considering this feature! It would significantly improve the user experience for power users.

As I move to DeepSeek being a more central part of my whole IT management, this issue is becoming more and more urgent for me!
