Description

Currently, DeepSeek's conversation titles appear to be generated only at the start of a dialogue (e.g., based on the first user message) and remain static thereafter. While these titles serve as a quick reference for extracting key content, the first message often serves merely as an introduction, frequently diverging significantly from the actual conversation. This creates a disconnect when users return later to locate specific parts of the dialogue, as the titles fail to accurately reflect the real conversation content. As a result, users often need multiple attempts to find the desired section, resulting in considerable time wasted.

Suggested Features

DeepSeek should be able to automatically generate real-time updated conversation titles, dynamically summarizing all previous dialogue content after each new message to ensure the title consistently captures the conversation's core theme.

Implementation Details

  • After each user message, the system calls the title generation model to generate a new title based on the complete conversation history.
  • If no significant changes are detected in the topic, you may reduce the update frequency (e.g., once every 2-3 rounds) to avoid frequent refreshes.

Why Is This Feature Important

  1. Improve search efficiency: When users have an extensive history of conversations, accurate content titles can significantly reduce search time and prevent frustration from incorrect attempts.
  2. Enhance user experience: The title serves as the "business card" of a conversation. Dynamic updates help users better follow the conversation flow, especially for those left open for extended periods.
  3. Grounded in real-world scenarios: Since many conversations begin with small talk or context-setting, the title should capture the entire conversation flow rather than being limited to the opening remarks.

Possible Implementation Ideas

  • Use the existing title generation model to periodically assess whether to update the title during the conversation (e.g., triggered after each user message).
  • Set update conditions: Update the title only when new content significantly changes the conversation topic to avoid frequent changes that may disturb users.
  • On the UI, the title can refresh smoothly with subtle cues (like animations or small icons) to let users notice the update.

Summary

Real-time update of conversation titles (based on complete history) can significantly improve the efficiency of managing historical conversations and reduce unnecessary search costs. We hope the DeepSeek team will consider this suggestion to make the product more intelligent and user-friendly.

Thank you for your efforts. We look forward to your feedback.

Hi @YBCA7,

Great suggestion — real‑time titles would definitely help. I’d like to share an alternative approach that we’ve already implemented in our community and that works very well for long‑term conversation management: manual hierarchical numbering using a system like [SRCP1.0], [SRCP1.1], etc.

You can see it in action here:
👉 Discussions in our community

Every topic gets a permanent number. It’s stable, instantly scannable, and completely under the user’s control. Once you assign a number, you never need to remember a title – just the category.

We’ve just started a Monthly Q&A series, and your question became our very first topic:
👉 Monthly Q&A #1: Manual numbering for conversation organisation (replace with your actual discussion link)

I think both approaches have merit – auto‑titles for quick context, manual numbers for permanent storage. Maybe DeepSeek could offer both?

Hope this helps – and feel free to join the discussion in our community if you’d like to explore this further.
