Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/games-on-whales/gst-wayland-display/issues/61
GPU: Intel Arc A380 (DG2), driver: iHD (Mesa VA-API 1.22.0)
Key log line: WARN waylanddisplaycore::utils::allocator: Failed to create buffer with modifier I915_y_tiled, trying workaround modifier
What you tried: H.264/H.265/AV1 encoders, single-slice encoding, non-VAMemory postproc caps — corruption persists regardless, confirming it's upstream in the compositor's buffer allocation, not the encode pipeline
Related: #222 on games-on-whales/wolf shows the same "Failed to create buffer with modifier I915_y_tiled" line on Intel hardware.
@DatCaptainHorse commented on GitHub (Aug 21, 2026):
Cannot reproduce, using Intel Arc A310 myself.
Do note the warning in logs is expected in this case. Can you share what OS/distro you use, what version of Mesa you got installed and what drivers are you using (i915/xe) ?
@DarkZennen commented on GitHub (Aug 22, 2026):
OS/distro: Ubuntu 25.04 (this is the Wolf container's own image, ghcr.io/games-on-whales/wolf:stable)
Mesa version: 25.0.7-0ubuntu0.25.04.2
Kernel driver: i915 (confirmed active, 88 references — the xe module is loaded on the host but has 0 references and isn't the one managing this card)
