Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/games-on-whales/unraid-plugin/issues/66
I recently updated the plugin to version 2026.07.19c and then pulled all of the images fresh. Included this in this version is PR#62 https://github.com/games-on-whales/unraid-plugin/pull/62
Now, after pulling the images and trying to launch steam I am unable to proceed. It looks like steam never begins the launch process. The container appears to be functional, but steam itself is not present. My assumption is that this is a permissions issue but I am not sure. The below screenshot represents what I see indefinitely:
Here are the error logs from the steam container:

Bloody hell, tooling auto-closes. I should have pushed a fix.
@JesterEE commented on GitHub (Jul 30, 2026):
Fix merged before I could even write up the explanation and manual fix as a comment. @JBailes on the AI assisted bug fix train 🚂!
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 2, 2026):
I updated the plugin and pulled all of the images from scratch with no change in symptoms. Steam container launches but the steam app does not.
Steam logs:

Facing a similar issue with Lutris but instead of a grey screen its black for me. I clicked on 'Reconfigure' button as indicated in the docs and seen a line while it stated that a permissoins change is being processed but it didn't fix it.
Lutris logs :
I'm facing another issue(present before .19c update), where clicking 'Update images' fails with the following message :
I get that same message with wolf started or down.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !
@JBailes commented on GitHub (Aug 9, 2026):
A PR should be merged now that should fix this.
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 11, 2026):
I just had the chance to completely pull the Wolf setup from scratch today. I deleted the storage folder and pulled all images again. It looks like the default setup script still doesn't set permissions correctly:
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 11, 2026):
Updated to the 8.11 version of the plugin and it looks like there are still some file paths that need to be updated:

Hahahah, nice timing. I didn't even have time to finish that out before you caught it. ;)
It'll be fixed by this evening, I'm reasonably expecting this to be the last quirk.
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 16, 2026):
Good news! There don't appear to be more permissions issues!
Bad news 😵💫
Steam still doesn't launch:
@JBailes commented on GitHub (Aug 16, 2026):
@thewave1408 Could you get me the Steam logs/process exit?
We're close to having this working, but I can't debug this without your steam logs.
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 16, 2026):
Of course. Do you know where I can get the logs you need? journalctl doesn't find any log files. Should I kill the steam process and relaunch from the terminal?
@JBailes commented on GitHub (Aug 19, 2026):
@ABeltramo Can we get a standard way documented or a better way of retrieving steam logs? This is something that keeps coming up, and we really need a standardized way.
@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (Aug 19, 2026):
Wolf logs them (with the debug output, we could raise that) when the containers exits; not sure if there's any easier way to surface them, do you have any idea?
@JBailes commented on GitHub (Aug 20, 2026):
I'd think this would be fine if we can document it more thoroughly. I keep getting asked the same question across multiple people and across multiple bugs, which indicates it's an issue in documentation.
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2026):
So i'm not sure I'm looking in the right place for these logs.. these are the logs from Wolf container after adding the line WOLF_LOG_LEVEL='DEBUG' to my gow.cfg:
This includes starting the steam container and then stopping it
I went with my original idea and killed the steam process and relaunched it from within the container and this was the result:
@JBailes commented on GitHub (Sep 4, 2026):
Should have pushed a fix for this in the latest
@thewave1408 commented on GitHub (Sep 4, 2026):
And we're back!
Thank you for the incredible amount of work you put into this. I should have some time this weekend to test the prior fixes for https://github.com/games-on-whales/unraid-plugin/issues/57
