Hello!
I was already using Wolf + Steam successfully on Xbos Series X.
Without any update installed on the Xbox the audio stopped working with Wolf on all applications.
See full logs I attached at the end of the post.
The sound is not working in any configuration (Stereo, 5.1, 7.1)
I am using Nvidia-Toolkit on Ubuntu Server 24.04.2
Docker Version:
nvidia-smi
Docker-Compose:
Logs:

@salty2011 commented on GitHub (May 10, 2025):
Hey @nilleiz
Have you recently updated the containers?
@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (May 10, 2025):
Also, please send the full Wolf log output and the exact docker command that you use to start it. Without that it's hard to tell what's happening..
@nilleiz commented on GitHub (May 12, 2025):
@salty2011
Yes I do that occasionally... Probably been a bad idea.
@ABeltramo
I'll provide you with the full log, when I am home tomorrow.
@nilleiz commented on GitHub (May 14, 2025):
@ABeltramo
I updated the OP with full logs and compose.yml of the wolf container.
If you need anything else, let me know!
Cheers!
@Logey commented on GitHub (May 29, 2025):
@nilleiz Any chance you found any sort of solution to this? I'm currently running into the same thing. No audio via Moonlight UWP on Xbox Series X. Tried Moonlight on both mobile (Android) and PC and audio worked fine through those.
I tried streaming from Sunshine outside of Docker and audio worked on the Xbox there, but doesn't quite fit my use case like Wolf does.
@nilleiz commented on GitHub (Jun 3, 2025):
@Logey
Nope, could not find a workaround. I guess i could try to try older image variants of the Wolf / PulseAudio containers, but I couldn't be bothered to do so, yet.
Been streaming with Moonlight on my Laptop and Nvidia Shield, instead.
@ABeltramo
Are the information I provided sufficient to see what's going on?
@Logey commented on GitHub (Jun 3, 2025):
I managed to sideload Moonlight onto my LG smart TV and it works on there - but I think the network chip inside is not very good as I get stuttering fairly often despite my network being more than capable. Would love to get it working on the Xbox instead.
I can provide logs tomorrow as well if it helps, although my logs look very similar to nilleiz's with a lot of
free_priv_data: object finalizing but still has parentwarnings that I don't see when streaming to other devices.I'm running the default
docker runcommand from the "Nvidia (Manual)" section of the quickstart guide.Here's a list of some things I've tried so far. Some of this stuff was suggested by ChatGPT and Claude AI. I'm not too familiar with this stuff so I apologise if some of this is seemingly irrelevant to this situation.
default_opus_encoderinconfig.toml, includingbitrate-type=vbrbandwidth=widebandaudio-type=genericaudiotestsrcalso is not working.@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (Jun 3, 2025):
It's hard for me to see what could be the issue since I don't have an Xbox to debug what's wrong with that client.
@nilleiz and @Logey could you guys please provide the Wolf logs with the env variable
WOLF_LOG_LEVEL=DEBUG?Since you both are getting that spam in the log, I wonder if there's something wrong with the params exchanged between Wolf and Moonlight that will end up in the audio pipeline.
I'm specifically looking at the values in this bit
github.com/games-on-whales/wolf@b098389979/src/moonlight-server/state/default/config.v4.toml (L410-L419)Also, FYI
Test Ballis a very good test because it's a super simple audio generator without any frills. If that doesn't work it means it's most likely something specific in how we encode the audio.@Logey commented on GitHub (Jun 4, 2025):
@ABeltramo I've attached Wolf logs with
WOLF_LOG_LEVEL=DEBUG, for both Steam and Test Ball. Interestingly, I noticed when I opened Test Ball this time, I heard the first two beeps and then it appeared to break and go silent. Perhaps the same thing is happening with Steam but audio doesn't play soon enough to be able to notice this? I'm not sure.This definitely doesn't happen every time with Test Ball, so maybe it usually breaks a little earlier on.

Sorry for all the weird symbols in the logs, I'm relatively new to Docker. I got these by running
sudo docker logs wolf &> wolf.log. Is there a better way than this?EDIT: Re-uploaded
wolf-steam.logbecause I realised I missed the first half of the logs somehow. Oops.@nilleiz commented on GitHub (Jun 4, 2025):
@ABeltramo @Logey
I have observed the same behavior when pairing with a new Moonlight UWP Client all Containers / Apps breifly have sound at the start, then it bugs out, and never comes back. So yes, the same thing is happening with Steam, Lutris,... It seems to be related to Wolf / PulseAudio Containers.
@Logey
You should have a look at portainer (https://www.portainer.io/). Much easier to manage your docker environment with that.
@ABeltramo
You don't neccessarily need an Xbox.
You can just install Moonlight UWP from the Microsoft Store on any Windows machine.
The behaviour there is just the same as on Xbox. Briefly sound, when first paired, then gone for good.
@Logey commented on GitHub (Jun 4, 2025):
Ah, ok, this is the first time I've witnessed it.
I might look into Portainer at some point but this is literally the only thing I'm using Docker for right now so I'm not too bothered at the minute. If I end up with any more Docker containers I'll probably get this, it looks quite nice. Thanks!
I did actually set up a Windows virtual machine just to test Moonlight UWP on there and weirdly enough the sound worked but video didn't, it was just a green screen. I assume the video issue was just something to do with my janky VM setup. But since audio worked I thought this issue was exclusive to Xbox.
But if you've tested Moonlight UWP on Windows yourself then I guess audio working was also just a side effect of my makeshift VM lol

@shiipou commented on GitHub (Nov 3, 2025):
I have the same issue when streaming from Tizen Os 8.
The problem didn’t exist when streaming to same tizen os 8 from Sunshine, but occure everytimes from Wolf. (I'm on wolf-ui branch)
@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (Nov 3, 2025):
@shiipou that's most likely a different issue, see: https://github.com/games-on-whales/wolf/issues/254#issuecomment-3325553475
@shiipou commented on GitHub (Nov 3, 2025):
I'll try that fix, and tell you.
EDIT: I use moonlight-chrome-tizen and not moonlight-tizen.
So I didn’t have the same issue.
I think mine is more like this UWP issue.
I have the first bip of test-ball. But not the others.
@carlosteaches commented on GitHub (Dec 29, 2025):
I can confirm this is happening to me too while using the latest container images (to this date) of Wolf, while using podman and docker as container runtime engines.
It doesn't happen when using Sunshine as server
Client is: Moonlight UWP App version 1.17.10.70 on Xbox Series X
I can provide logs if it helps further
@sikkgit commented on GitHub (Jan 5, 2026):
Same here. No sound at all when connecting to Wolf from Moonlight UWP on Xbox Series S.
@andygrundman commented on GitHub (Jan 18, 2026):
If anyone on Xbox can open the log immediately after connecting, see if you can spot anything audio-related. It is likely to scroll off the screen, so this might not be very useful. I just spotted this issue, but am still working on getting a Wolf install going to test with.
@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (Jan 18, 2026):
Linking the two issues here: https://github.com/TheElixZammuto/moonlight-xbox/issues/230
Thanks to @andygrundman we've figured out the root cause and it's a combination of issues 😅
I'm going to work on the Wolf side over the next few days, stay tuned 😉

I've just opened a PR to fix this, if anyone would like to test this you can use the image
until it's merged back into
stable. Any feedback is highly appreciated 😉@Trasen commented on GitHub (Jan 22, 2026):
First time since setting up Wolf it has worked from the Xbox :)
@carlosteaches commented on GitHub (Jan 29, 2026):
This is working successfully on Xbox now
