Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/games-on-whales/wolf/issues/273
Gamepad input (both on-screen controls and physical gamepads) from the Artemis client for Android is not registered by the Wolf host during a streaming session. Mouse input work correctly. This issue appears to be specific to the Artemis client, as the official Moonlight client works perfectly under the exact same conditions.
This report is a follow-up to the discussion in issue #272, where my initial theory was proven incorrect. This new issue provides logs and video evidence of the problem.
Steps to reproduce
Video Evidence
I have recorded a short video demonstrating the problem with Artemis, where the on-screen controls do not work in RetroArch.

Logs
The following logs were captured on the Wolf host during a session with the Artemis client.
Compose
Just to clarify, while I used an LLM for translation and to structure my message in both this and the previous issue (as English is not my first language), the initial theory about permissions came from my own troubleshooting. After struggling with the gamepad issue in Wolf, I switched to the official Moonlight client and it worked. Later, in Apollo, I noticed that new clients default to having no input permissions, which led me to believe that was the root cause. Since the developer has ruled that out, my assumptions were incorrect, and I apologize if my earlier report hindered the debugging process.
@ABeltramo commented on GitHub (Oct 15, 2025):
@zeedif no need to apologise, it's perfectly fine to use LLMs for translating, next time I would suggest to be clear upfront that you've used an LLM to debug an issue instead of claiming that the code is doing something. Never trust blindly the output 😉
As for the actual issue, remove the deprecated
HOST_APPS_STATE_FOLDERandWOLF_DOCKER_FAKE_UDEV_PATHenv variables and just useIf that still doesn't help, please post the full debug Wolf logs, from starting the container up until you press some buttons on the virtual joypad. And please don't edit or remove lines, I need to get the big picture..
@zeedif commented on GitHub (Oct 15, 2025):
I applied the changes you suggested, and surprisingly, it worked! However, I’d like to know how to keep the path where device and app data are generated separate from the configuration files.
I originally used the
HOST_APPS_STATE_FOLDERvariable to point to my secondary SSD (./wolf.As for
WOLF_DOCKER_FAKE_UDEV_PATH, I ended up using it because I couldn’t write the fake udev file to the SSD path.I’m including the logs below.

To follow up, I reverted to my previous configuration and I’m including the full log below:
@zeedif commented on GitHub (Oct 16, 2025):
I just reverted to the setup that worked before, but it’s not working again; it seems it was just a coincidence that it worked previously. I’m attaching the logs while testing the entire
/etc/wolfpath on my SSD:The situation where the on-screen controller in Artemis worked has not occurred again; I’ve restarted multiple times without success.
