System is Truenas Scale 25.10.5 (Debian based) with an AMD 6950xt GPU using Docker compose with the Docker engine that ships with Truenas. Every other app starts without issue, Steam goes to a black screen and about a second later returns to the apps list. Ive tried edge (default) as well as fedora and edge-fedora, all with the same outcome. Nothing sticks out to me in the logs so here I am.
Compose:
(568 is the default truenas 'apps' user/group)
Default 'edge' log:
default.txt
'edge-fedora' log:
fedora.txt
Side question, where are images stored? I figured they would be somewhere in /etc/wolf but they dont seem to be.
@Skerga commented on GitHub (Aug 17, 2026):
2026-08-16 22:58:04.942509+00:00Gmkdir: cannot create directory '/home/retro/.steam': Permission deniedlooks like its the culprit. Make sure that the folder is accessible for the user that runs the steam container (default should be 1000).
Images are stored the same way every other docker image is stored, we don't do anything custom there.
But
/etc/wolfdoes contain the data created by each image/user its under/etc/wolf/profile-datafor lobbies (started via Wolf-UI) or/etc/wolf/[0-9]+for images directly started via Moonlight (by default only Wolf-UI)./etc/wolf/profile-datais also where you should check first for permission mismatch.@daktah commented on GitHub (Aug 17, 2026):
Oh whoops my bad, I completely missed that line somehow. I changed the uid/gid to 568/568 in the toml to be inline with the Truenas default and immediately steam fired right up, so good ol user error ;p
Thanks for the quick reply!
