when i start a container eg firefox or steam the there is no display in screen, just black

Taking a look at the logs, you do not have the nvidia drm module loaded.

On the quickstart guide I noticed the instructions for the container toolkit don't mention the steps below but they are still needed (will get that updated) https://games-on-whales.github.io/wolf/stable/user/quickstart.html

Also while looking at the logs I also noticed these errors

fusermount3: fuse device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first
error: fuse init failed: Can't mount path /tmp/sockets/doc

there are few things mounted from the host into the Wolf container, you may also want to check the docker containers are running as a user that has permissions to /tmp/sockets
