Summary

The application currently uses a static cookie configuration that allows session cookies to be transmitted over unsecured HTTP connections, which introduces the risk of session hijacking in production environments.

Issue

The cookie configuration sets secure: false, which permits cookies to be sent over unencrypted HTTP connections.

Risk

In production deployments not using HTTPS, attackers can intercept session cookies via man-in-the-middle attacks.

Impact

MEDIUM – Risk of session theft over unencrypted network channels.

Mitigation

Modify the secure flag to be environment-based:

secure: process.env.NODE_ENV === "production"

Benefits of Fixing

Ensures that session cookies are only sent over secure connections in production.
Aligns with security best practices for session management.
Reduces the risk of session hijacking attacks.
