Using nvcr.io/nvidia/pytorch:24.05-py3/24.10-py3 as start containers.
Both failed to install etcd-cpp-apiv3 and encountered above error

CMake Deprecation Warning at CMakeLists.txt:1 (cmake_minimum_required):
Compatibility with CMake < 3.5 will be removed from a future version of
  CMake.

Update the VERSION argument <min> value or use a ...<max> suffix to tell
CMake that the project does not need compatibility with older versions.

-- Building etcd-cpp-apiv3 with C++11
CMake Error at /usr/lib/cmake/utf8_range/utf8_range-targets.cmake:86 (message):
The imported target "utf8_range::utf8_validity" references the file

     "/usr/lib/libutf8_validity.a"

but this file does not exist. Possible reasons include:

  * The file was deleted, renamed, or moved to another location.

  * An install or uninstall procedure did not complete successfully.

  * The installation package was faulty and contained

     "/usr/lib/cmake/utf8_range/utf8_range-targets.cmake"

but not all the files it references.

Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/lib/cmake/utf8_range/utf8_range-config.cmake:7 (include)
  /usr/lib/cmake/protobuf/protobuf-config.cmake:12 (find_package)
  CMakeLists.txt:125 (find_package)

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

I am wondering if there exists a recommended container?

We use cmake 3.22.1 in our development machine. You can log in the container and try to update its cmake version.

@yjsunn My OS is Ubuntu 22.02. The protobuf is precompiled (i.e. apt install libprotobuf-dev), and its version is "23.0.4"; etcd-cpp-apiv3 is today's version in github. No libutf8_validity.a found in my server, so that it should be unnecessary in building etcd-cpp-apiv3.

The following is a built libetcd-cpp-apiv3 in my X64 machine. You can also try to use other metadata servers (e.g. Redis) in CMakeLists.txt.

libetcd-cpp-api.so.tar.gz

Still the same error on Ubuntu 22.04, what's your version of cmake?

etcd-cpp-api-v3 is not longer required when bulding Mooncake. You can fetch the latest code and retry.
