Bug Report
I installed Mooncake v0.3.9 following the steps in the documentation:
Then I just run
with an error occurred:
and the mooncake_master service disappeared.

Thanks for the report. I looked into the startup failure. The direct cause appears to be in the
yalantinglibsversion currently used by Mooncake's RPC/HTTP servers.0.0.0.0is a valid server bind address; it means "listen on all IPv4 interfaces". However, the yalantinglibs version pinned by Mooncake currently resolves the listen address through Asio/system resolver before binding. In some environments, resolving0.0.0.0can returnHost not found, which matches the errors in your log:So this is not caused by Mooncake master service logic itself, but Mooncake exposes it because
mooncake_masteruses0.0.0.0as the default bind address. The proper fix is for yalantinglibs to handle numeric addresses such as0.0.0.0,127.0.0.1, and::by directly constructing a TCP endpoint, and only use resolver lookup for hostnames likelocalhost.I checked upstream yalantinglibs. Their current
mainbranch already contains this fix viacoro_io/detail/listen_endpoint.hpp, but the latest yalantinglibs release/tag (0.6.1) does not contain it yet. Mooncake is still pinned to an older yalantinglibs commit, so the released Mooncake binaries can still hit this issue in affected environments. We plan to pick up the fixed yalantinglibs code in a future dependency upgrade. Until then, possible workarounds are:
--rpc_address=127.0.0.1.0.0.0.0as the advertised/client address. Configure a real reachable IP address or use--rpc_interface=<network-interface>so Mooncake can derive the correct IP.For clients,
0.0.0.0should not be used as the connection address. Use127.0.0.1:50051for single-machine testing, or<master-reachable-ip>:50051for multi-node deployments.@enkco commented on GitHub (Jul 9, 2026):
Thanks for your reply! So is it an error limited to environments where
0.0.0.0cannot be resolved successfully using Asio?In addition, when I instead run
mooncake_master --rpc_address $MY_HOST_IPV6, the mooncake_master service also reports ahost not founderror:whereas the actual IP address is
2605:340:cd51:4900:14f:ea12:cb9e:820.
