Type: Feature Domain: AI & Runtimes Status: Proposed Ecosystem: REA

Before submitting

  • I searched the existing issues for a related documentation report.
  • I removed credentials, tokens, private paths, and sensitive target data.

Documentation location

README.md#disclaimer, DISCLAIMER.md, and localized editions in docs/readme/README_<lang>.md.

Problem

Users connecting AI coding assistants (such as Claude/Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, Copilot) to REA risk automated account suspensions and permanent API key revocation when asking agents to decompile proprietary, closed-source binaries, bypass DRM/anti-cheat systems, or extract protected intellectual property. AI model providers actively enforce automated abuse detection and safety classifiers under their Acceptable Use Policies.

Currently, the ## Disclaimer section in README.md and DISCLAIMER.md touches upon lawful use, but does not explicitly warn users about:

  1. The real risk of immediate and permanent account/API bans by AI model hosts when prompting agents for unauthorized reverse engineering or evasion of protections;
  2. The strict boundary that REA is intended only for software the user owns, public-domain code, or targets for which explicit written authorization is held;
  3. Copyright boundaries: decompilation does not transfer copyright ownership of generated code or assets.

Expected content

  1. Add a prominent > [!WARNING] callout to ## Disclaimer in README.md and all 19 localized READMEs in docs/readme/:
    • Highlighting the account/API ban risk from AI providers when deconstructing proprietary software or evading safety controls.
    • Restricting use strictly to owned software, public domain, or explicitly authorized targets.
  2. In DISCLAIMER.md, add dedicated sections:
    • ## AI provider policies and account ban risks
    • ## Copyright, public domain, and authorization requirements
  3. Maintain 100% link parity across all 19 translations (npm run docs:check passes).

Supporting evidence

AI provider Acceptable Use Policies (e.g. Anthropic Commercial Terms and OpenAI Usage Policies) explicitly classify circumvention of technical protection measures, unauthorized extraction of proprietary IP, and reverse engineering of third-party proprietary systems as policy violations subject to automated account termination.

A complete implementation is prepared, verified, and passing npm run docs:check and npm run check:fast on branch:

(Compare view: https://github.com/morluto/rea/compare/main...matbrgz:rea:docs/clarify-responsible-use-warnings?expand=1)

Additional context

Attempting to submit the PR directly hit the repository's open pull request limit (cap of 3 open PRs for external contributors, with #3100, #3029, #3028 currently open). Opening this issue to discuss the documentation clarification and coordinate submission.
