Observed behavior

Source-only documentation verification: readers choosing the Malayalam README from the language menu see a celebration of 250,000 GitHub stars. The English edition and every other translated edition celebrate 300,000.

I ran rg -n 'GitHub stars' README.md docs/readme/README_ml.md at the revision below and confirmed the two different numerals. I also inspected every edition's celebration line. No CLI or MCP behavior failure is asserted.

Reproduction

  1. Use a checkout of revision 65f1c447344a423fa2785847dbcea1e9a9e2454a.

  2. Run:

    rg -n 'GitHub stars' README.md docs/readme/README_ml.md

  3. Compare the two returned celebrations: English says 300,000; Malayalam says 250,000.

  4. Run:

    rg -n '^🎉' README.md docs/readme/README_*.md

The remaining 21 translations all celebrate 300,000, using their localized digits and separators.

These commands were run during this verification and confirmed the static mismatch. No fixture or external analysis target is needed.

Expected behavior

The Malayalam translation should carry the same 300,000-star celebration as the English source and the other current editions. The project previously advanced this celebration across English and all translations then present; the Malayalam edition was added afterward with the older numeral. Supporting source and history are listed below.

This is an expectation of consistent translated milestone text, not a requirement for an automatically refreshed live star counter.

Impact and scope

P3: Malayalam readers see a different popularity milestone from readers of the other editions. This is a cosmetic factual inconsistency; no consequential runtime behavior or blocked workflow was demonstrated. The affected text is reachable through the existing README language menu. The English edition provides an available reference for the shared milestone.

The comparison covered all 23 README editions: English and 22 translations. Translation quality beyond this numeral was not assessed.

REA version

Exact output from node scripts/rea.mjs --version:

6.8.0

Runtime and platform

Node.js v24.22.1; macOS 27.0.1; arm64. Documentation inspection plus the CLI version query only; no analysis provider or MCP session was started.

Target and artifact context

Authored README translations. No binary, captured process, or analysis artifact.

Relevant output or evidence

The first reproduction command returned:

README.md:428:🎉 **300,000 GitHub stars — thank you!**
docs/readme/README_ml.md:358:🎉 **250,000 GitHub stars — നന്ദി!**

At the stated baseline:

  • README.md:3–4 links the Malayalam edition from the public language menu.
  • CONTRIBUTING.md:305–316 identifies the translated README files as editable sources and directs contributors to the English source for factual checks.
  • README.md:426–430 and docs/readme/README_ml.md:356–360 contain the differing milestone prose, without an edition-specific date or historical qualification.
  • Merged milestone PR #4778 describes advancing the celebration from 250,000 to 300,000 in English and all 19 translations then present. Its merge commit is 060eb43b5.
  • Merged Malayalam introduction #4792, commit af67ad504, introduces the Malayalam celebration at 250,000. I checked that 060eb43b5 is its ancestor and that the English README in its parent already says 300,000.

Analysis or suspected cause

Source-history evidence establishes that the Malayalam edition entered the repository with the older milestone text after the shared 300,000 update. The contributor guide directs edits to the translated Markdown itself; I found no generator for this celebration in the inspected scripts, workflows, or README checks. The chart alongside the celebration is separate from the literal numeral.

Additional context

I searched open and closed issues, all PR states, and indexed issue/PR comments for star-count, Star history, Malayalam, and milestone mismatches. No matching report was found. Related Malayalam reports #4821 and #6731, and open PR #6383, concern links, anchors, and other prose corrections; they do not report this numeral mismatch.

@Varshavia commented on GitHub (Oct 30, 2026):

Checked current main (c5f50e80d; source-only, nothing rendered): all 22 editions under docs/readme/ carry the same 400,000-star milestone line as the English README, with locale-specific number formatting (for example 400.000 in README_tr.md and README_de.md). README_ml.md line 358 now reads "🎉 400,000 GitHub stars — നന്ദി!", matching English. This looks resolved on main and may be closable. I did not identify which commit changed it.
