TL;DR: For Claude Code, setup installs the skill to ~/.agents/skills, but Claude Code reads personal skills from ~/.claude/skills, so the skill never loads.

Before submitting

  • I searched the open and closed issues for a related report.
  • I removed credentials, tokens, private paths, and sensitive target data.

Area

Setup, packaging, or upgrade

Observed behavior

setup writes the skill to ~/.agents/skills/reverse-engineer-anything (dist/application/SetupSkill.js:13). Claude Code loads personal skills from ~/.claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md and its docs don't list ~/.agents/skills, so after setup the MCP tools would be there but the skill wouldn't load. I worked around it rather than testing a setup-installed skill in a session.

Reproduction

rea setup --client claude_code --dry-run --json (6.0.0) listed the skill destination as ~/.agents/skills/reverse-engineer-anything, and 6.1.0's SetupSkill.js uses the same root. Compare with Claude Code's skill locations below.

Expected behavior

When claude_code is a selected client, setup also links or installs the skill into ~/.claude/skills.

Impact and scope

Claude Code users only. MCP registration itself is fine.

REA version

6.0.0 and 6.1.0

Runtime and platform

Claude Code 2.1.x, Linux x86-64

Target and artifact context

No response

Interface

Package or setup

Earliest failure stage

Setup or provider admission

Relevant output or evidence

Claude Code's skill locations: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/skills (the "Personal" row).

Typed outcome or recovery expected

No response

Analysis or suspected cause

No response

Additional context

My workaround is a copy in ~/.claude/skills plus a symlink from ~/.agents/skills, so that doctor --skill still finds it.

TL;DR: This is fixed on main, so I'm closing it. Thanks morluto for the fix in b4a19193! And thanks akram1089 for jumping in with #1352.

Edit: removed the user tags.

I built main at 9c4a68b and ran rea setup --client claude_code in a throwaway home. The skill now goes to ~/.claude/skills/reverse-engineer-anything. With CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR set, it goes under that folder instead. It isn't in a release yet (6.2.0 is the latest). Like in the issue, I didn't test the skill loading in a live Claude Code session.

#1352 is now a docs change only. My notes are on the PR.
