📄 Description

## Summary

Add optional public-source research (OSINT) guidance to the REA skill, alongside artifact analysis and runtime observation.

Problem and expected behavior

The skill currently frames investigations around artifacts and runtime evidence, leaving public research implicit. Existing documentation or prior research can answer focused questions, orient local analysis, or help investigate historical, unavailable, or uninstalled software. Agents should be able to choose research when useful without a mandatory search step, fixed ordering, or priority over other tools. No separate issue is linked; this is a focused documentation proposal.

Change and scope

Update the discovery description and introductory scope, and add a concise OSINT section covering useful sources, focused searches, source attribution, and date/version/platform applicability. External claims remain distinct from locally observed behavior and inferences. Older research can supply leads without proving current behavior.

Maintainer scope decision: not applicable; this changes skill instructions only and adds no provider, execution, injection, mutation, or protection-recovery capability.

Contract and boundary impact

  • Semantic owner: authored REA skill instructions.
  • Contribution scope: documentation for general-purpose investigation.
  • CLI, MCP/tool catalog, providers, bridges, and platform contracts: unchanged.
  • Evidence: apply existing observation/inference/unknown distinctions to public sources and cite external sources.
  • Authority and cleanup: no new target interactions or execution authority.
  • Generated/package impact: authored instructions flow into the generated packaged skill; no generated outputs committed.

Expected effects:

  • Documentation or usability only; no target interaction.

Evidence and regression coverage

No executable behavior changed; no tests added. Manually reviewed suggestions for optional wording, equal standing with other tools, artifact-free investigations, and stale/version-mismatched research. Behavioral forward-testing remains unperformed.

Validation performed

  • Skill Creator quick_validate.py .agents/skills/reverse-engineer-anything: passed.
  • git diff --check: passed.
  • npm run check: blocked by missing installed dependencies in this fresh checkout (node_modules/.package-lock.json absent). Full repository checks remain pending.

Compatibility, safety, and release

No breaking changes or migrations. Real-provider workflows were not run for this documentation-only change. Existing metadata and runtime boundaries are preserved. Draft status reflects pending repository checks.

Before merge

  • This PR addresses a concrete problem or an agreed enhancement.
  • Material scope and authority questions are resolved; no advance scope decision applies.
  • The PR has one focused outcome and a Conventional Commit title.
  • The reason for not linking an issue is stated above.
  • Full repository validation has passed.
  • Authored skill instructions are updated; generated outputs remain uncommitted.
  • Final diff checked for secrets, unrelated cleanup, and unsupported claims.
