📄 Description

Summary

Correct the CLI exit-status guide so it identifies every command that is routed through the shared withCommandCancellation handler. Fixes #5336.

Problem and expected behavior

docs/cli.md#output-and-exit-status says its command list "describes the current source routing", but five commands that use the handler were absent from it: doctor, inspect-sqlite-database, recover-javascript-sources, inspect-il2cpp-metadata and inspect-desktop-application. A script author reading only the guide could not learn that these commands exit 130 after SIGINT or 143 after SIGTERM with a structured cancelled result. The paragraph also never stated how routing is decided, so the list drifted whenever a command adopted the handler.

The corrected paragraph states the rule (the command's CLI registration wraps its operation with withCommandCancellation in src/cli/), names the five omitted commands in their existing families, and points readers at the wrapper when they need the full current set.

Change and scope

Documentation only, in docs/cli.md. The existing inspect-artifact note (structured cancellation but exit 1) and the setup note (cancellation exits 0) are unchanged because both still match the source.

Source trace for the five additions:

  • doctor — src/cli/setupCommands.ts:106, wrapper at :124
  • inspect-sqlite-database — src/cli/sqliteCommands.ts:18, wrapper at :51
  • recover-javascript-sources — src/cli/javascriptRecoveryCommands.ts:20, wrapper at :50
  • inspect-il2cpp-metadata — src/cli/il2cppCommands.ts:19, wrapper at :29
  • inspect-desktop-application — src/cli/desktopApplicationCommands.ts:19, wrapper at :45

The wrapper assigns 130 for SIGINT and 143 for SIGTERM in src/cli/commandCancellation.ts.

Contract and boundary impact

  • Semantic owner and earliest changed stage: docs/cli.md exit-status section; no runtime stage changes.
  • Contribution scope fit and linked maintainer decision: documentation correction of an existing boundary; not applicable (no new capability).
  • CLI and MCP/tool-catalog contract: unchanged; documents existing behavior.
  • Provider, bridge, target-format, or platform compatibility: none.
  • Evidence, artifact, provenance, or reconstruction contract: none.
  • Target selection, authority, upstream behavior, and cleanup details (if applicable): not applicable.
  • Generated metadata, package, or installation impact: none.

Expected effects (check known effects; use documentation-only on its own).
Unchecked items do not establish absence; leave uncertainties visible.

  • Read existing files or captured data.
  • Launch or attach to a process.
  • Inject instrumentation or run scripts/code.
  • Change process memory, registers, files, or configuration.
  • Contact network services.
  • Recover protected code or work around protections.
  • Documentation or usability only; no target interaction.
  • Not sure yet; investigation or maintainer guidance needed.

Evidence and regression coverage

  • Tests added or updated: none. This is a documentation-only correction; the project's documentation check covers links and the onboarding examples.
  • Base reproduction or other evidence: the omission is visible at docs/cli.md in the paragraph beginning "A cancelled result does not by itself determine the exit status". Each of the five commands was traced to a withCommandCancellation registration in the source references above. Issue #5336 observed doctor and inspect-sqlite-database at runtime; the other three are source-derived.
  • User-visible CLI/MCP output (if applicable): not applicable.
  • Remaining proof gaps: I did not re-run a SIGINT/SIGTERM capture for each of the five commands in this change. The two commands observed by the reporter are unchanged by this edit, and the three source-derived additions follow the same wrapper.

For evidence-bearing changes:

  • Observed, derived, and inferred claims remain distinguishable.
  • Artifact identity, source provenance, and failed attempts remain preserved.
  • Unsupported, incomplete, unavailable, or uncertain outcomes remain visible.

Validation performed

  • npm run docs:check — exit 0; 6 tasks successful, tests/conformance/readmeConsistency.test.ts 5/5 passed.
  • git diff --check — clean.

Compatibility, safety, and release

  • Breaking changes or migration steps: none.
  • Real Hopper/Ghidra, browser, or OS coverage: not applicable.
  • Package or release metadata impact: none.
  • Security, privacy, process, or containment review: none.

Author readiness

Human owner: @sachinkr7368

  • I reviewed the final diff and relevant existing code, understand the change and its edge cases, and take responsibility for the complete PR, including AI-assisted work.
  • I checked the evidence above, confirmed it supports the current change, and recorded meaningful validation gaps.
  • I declare this PR ready for initial maintainer review.

AI-assisted: the diff and evidence were prepared by an AI coding agent, and the human owner reviewed the change and dictated the readiness declarations above.

Before merge

  • This PR addresses a concrete problem or an agreed enhancement.
  • Material scope and authority questions are resolved, and any required maintainer scope decision covers the final diff.
  • The PR has one focused outcome and the title follows type(scope): outcome.
  • Related issue is linked, or the reason for not linking one is stated above.
  • Tests cover changed observable behavior and meaningful failure paths.
  • Owning docs, contracts, and generated metadata are updated where needed.
  • User-visible CLI/MCP changes include representative output.
  • I checked the final diff for secrets, unrelated cleanup, and unsupported claims.

Fixes #5336. ## Problem and expected behavior `docs/cli.md#output-and-exit-status` says its command list "describes the current source routing", but five commands that use the handler were absent from it: `doctor`, `inspect-sqlite-database`, `recover-javascript-sources`, `inspect-il2cpp-metadata` and `inspect-desktop-application`.
