📄 Description

Summary

Fixes #7388.

Qualifies the 32-segment route comparison limit in the MCP inspect_analysis_view input schema and documentation for the prefix-variance template rule.

Problem and expected behavior

The input JSON Schema description for the MCP inspect_analysis_view registration described the prefix-variance template rule as applying "at any method or length", without documenting the 32-segment route comparison limit.

At runtime, routes with more than 32 segments are intentionally skipped by prefix-variance and reported in the manifest limitations (as specified in docs/specs/agent-environments/prefix-variance/spec.md:49 and docs/web-network-captures.md:555). The unqualified wording misled callers and agents into expecting prefix matching beyond 32 segments.

Change and scope

  • Updated template_rules description in src/domain/analysisView/environmentManifestView.ts to state "at any method or length (comparing routes of at most 32 segments)".
  • Updated the prefix-variance row in docs/web-network-captures.md to include (comparing routes of at most 32 segments).
  • Added a unit test in src/domain/analysisView/environmentManifestView.test.ts asserting that the advertised schema description includes the 32-segment route comparison limit.

Contract and boundary impact

  • Semantic owner and earliest changed stage: src/domain/analysisView/environmentManifestView.ts (request schema descriptor).
  • Contribution scope fit and linked maintainer decision: Not applicable (focused schema guidance and documentation fix within existing boundary).
  • CLI and MCP/tool-catalog contract: MCP input schema description for inspect_analysis_view accurately describes the 32-segment boundary.
  • Provider, bridge, target-format, or platform compatibility: None.
  • Evidence, artifact, provenance, or reconstruction contract: None.
  • Target selection, authority, upstream behavior, and cleanup details: None.
  • Generated metadata, package, or installation impact: None.

Expected effects:

  • Documentation or usability only; no target interaction.

Evidence and regression coverage

  • Tests added or updated: src/domain/analysisView/environmentManifestView.test.ts: advertises the 32-segment route limit in prefix-variance template rules description.
  • Base reproduction or other evidence: Verified that schema inspection advertises the 32-segment boundary and that accepted 32 vs 33 segment routes keep their intentional cap and limitation.
  • User-visible CLI/MCP output: MCP tool registration inspect_analysis_view input schema reflects the qualified rule description.
  • Remaining proof gaps: None.

For evidence-bearing changes:

  • Unsupported, incomplete, unavailable, or uncertain outcomes remain visible.

Validation performed

  • npm run test:local -- src/domain/analysisView/environmentManifestView.test.ts — 43 tests passed (1.2s).
  • npm run check:fast — 2 tasks successful (typecheck, lint: 0 errors).
  • npm run docs:check — 6 tasks successful (metadata:check, skills:artifacts, catalog:artifacts, ledger:artifacts, docs:check:built, readmeConsistency.test.ts: 0 errors).

Compatibility, safety, and release

  • Breaking changes or migration steps: None; additive clarification of existing runtime behavior.
  • Real Hopper/Ghidra, browser, or OS coverage: Not applicable.
  • Package or release metadata impact: None.
  • Security, privacy, process, or containment review: Verified; documentation and schema descriptor change only.
