What happened?
The 8812au driver needs alot of code change to make it work on kernel 7.1. I already made all the changes and I'm able to compile it successfully.
Here are the changes:
The makefile need "CONFIG_BR_EXT = n"
Then, the file "ioctl_cfg80211.c" needs alot of change (see attachment)
EDIT: Fixed. see below
@cybersnow02 commented on GitHub (Jul 27, 2026):
The "Makefile" needs those changes:
CONFIG_BR_EXT = n
CONFIG_RTW_DEBUG = n
the file "ioctl_cfg80211.c" needs alot of change (see attachment)
ioctl_cfg80211.c

You've made a big work, why don't you open a PR?
@cybersnow02 commented on GitHub (Sep 13, 2026):
@giuliobenetti it's up to @morrownr to update his own repo. I think he doesn't want to update it anymore so opening a PR is useless. You can follow my Repo/Fork if you want. I let people know that my Repo exists in case they update their kernel one day and encounter issues (and want to keep the original Realtek driver for good know reasons). thanks.

@cybersnow02
I am willing to merge PRs that have been well tested. I'd prefer to see at least two people testing. I am unable to put in the time that I used to because of health reasons.
Another reason to consider is that for most people, this driver not required anymore. I helped with the effort to get the in-kernel version of the driver for rtl8812au in the kernel. It is a much better driver so it is not clear to me why anyone would want to install this driver.
