The file editor renders markdown files in three exclusive modes: read-only preview, a rich-text editor, and a raw source view. Only one is visible at a time.
When writing markdown in raw mode there is no way to see the rendered result without switching to preview mode, which tears down the editor and loses scroll position. So the edit-check loop for any longer document is: edit in raw, switch to preview, scroll to find the spot again, switch back.
The renderer component already exists (the preview mode uses it). What's missing is a layout that shows source and rendered output together.
Suggested change: an optional split view for markdown files, source on one side (raw CodeMirror) and the rendered preview on the other, scrolled in sync or at least independently scrollable. A toggle in the existing three-mode toolbar, or a fourth mode. Since both building blocks already ship (CodeMirror source view, markdown renderer), this is mostly layout work plus keeping the preview updated as the source changes.
Nice-to-have on top: remember the choice per file or globally, so reopening a markdown file returns to the split view.
