Description

After the latest update, all my previously working connections stopped working.
Before the update everything worked fine without any issues.

Environment

Issues found

1. AI → Connections shows no models at all
With Direct Connections toggle OFF, the model dropdown shows "No models available"
even when connections are saved. The only way to get any models to appear is to
toggle Direct Connections ON.

2. Verify fails for NVIDIA and LongCat with "OpenAI: Network Problem"
When Direct Connections is ON and I try to verify NVIDIA or LongCat, I get a
500 Internal Server Error. DevTools shows:

  • Remote Address: 127.0.0.1:8080
  • Response: {"detail":"Open WebUI: Server Connection Error"}

3. The connection itself works perfectly
I tested the NVIDIA API directly using the bundled Python executable and it
connects and returns the full model list successfully:

"E:\open web ui\python\python.exe" -c "import urllib.request;
print(urllib.request.urlopen('https://integrate.api.nvidia.com/v1/models').read())"

This proves the issue is inside Open WebUI's connection handling, not the
network, DNS, API key, or Avast antivirus (all ruled out through testing).

4. Server log error
The backend log at %APPDATA%\open-webui\logs\server.log shows:
"Client error: Cannot connect to host api.longcat.ch:443 ssl:default
[Could not contact DNS servers]"

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install latest Open WebUI Desktop
  2. Add NVIDIA (https://integrate.api.nvidia.com/v1) connection in AI → Connections
  3. Toggle Direct Connections OFF → no models appear in dropdown
  4. Toggle Direct Connections ON → try to verify NVIDIA → 500 error

Expected behavior

Connections that worked before the update should still work after the update.
Models should appear in dropdown without needing Direct Connections toggle.

Additional notes

Adding model IDs manually also does not work - still shows Server Connection Error.

Same problem here. "Could not contact DNS servers" error.

If your console error looks something like: | ERROR | open_webui.routers.openai:generate_chat_completion:1427 - Cannot connect to host api.naga.ac:443 ssl:default [Could not contact DNS servers]
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\open-webui\python\Lib\site-packages\aiohttp\resolver.py", line 117, in resolve
resp = await self._resolver.getaddrinfo(
aiodns.error.DNSError: (11, 'Could not contact DNS servers')

For me a very temporary fix that works for now is I went to the resolver.py file the error points to, and at the end of the file there's this line "DefaultResolver: _DefaultType = AsyncResolver if aiodns_default else ThreadedResolver",
I just changed it to DefaultResolver: _DefaultType = ThreadedResolver", works for now but it'll break if something updates.

aiodns newer version does have breaking changes according to google, so that's probably what's messing things.
