📄 Description

Summary

I compared the Docker Compose, Podman, Quadlet and Podman Kube Play tabs with the repository's Compose files, helper scripts, Dockerfile and image workflow.

  • Compose: the extra_hosts line is now explained. With no OLLAMA_BASE_URL set, the image looks for Ollama at host.docker.internal:11434, then :12434. An update step is added. The page also says that the Updating tab's Watchtower command targets a container named open-webui, which this Compose file only produces with container_name: open-webui.
  • The :cuda note now says what the tag does: it moves Open WebUI's own local models (embedding, reranking, Whisper) to the GPU, not Ollama's, falls back to CPU silently, and the pre-release tag is :dev-cuda. The same note is on the Kube Play tab.
  • Helper scripts: the launcher's --data flag mounts a host folder for Ollama's models only, and docker-run.sh passes no WEBUI_SECRET_KEY.
  • Podman and Quadlet: OLLAMA_BASE_URL=http://host.containers.internal:11434 is now set in the run command and the unit file, because the image's default host.docker.internal does not resolve under Podman.

None.

Checklist

  • I have reviewed the relevant documentation and matched the existing style.
  • This PR meets Open WebUI's contribution standards: it is accurate, relevant to users, narrowly scoped, maintainable, and not promotional content, advertising, lead generation, SEO placement, or a request to list a product, service, provider, integration, gateway, tool, or company primarily for visibility.
  • I understand that PRs that do not meet these standards may be closed without review and will not be merged. Repeated, low-quality, off-topic, promotional, or intentionally misleading submissions may result in the contributor being blocked from future participation in Open WebUI repositories.

Notes for reviewers

Sources on dev: docker-compose.yaml, docker-compose.data.yaml, docker-compose-launcher.sh, docker-run.sh, Dockerfile (USE_CUDA, OLLAMA_BASE_URL), .github/workflows/docker.yaml for the tag matrix, and config.py for the Ollama URL rewrite. The :dev wording on the Compose page ("in practice a nightly build") is left as is. The image is rebuilt on every push to dev, which is what that sentence means in practice.
