Check Existing Issues

  • I have searched the existing issues and discussions.
  • I am using the latest version of mcpo.

mcpo Version

0.12

Open WebUI Version (if applicable)

NA

Operating System

Ubuntu 24

Browser (if applicable)

NA

Confirmation

  • I have read and followed all instructions in README.md.
  • I am using the latest version of both MCPO and Open WebUI.
  • I have included the browser console logs.
  • I have included the Docker container logs.
  • I have listed steps to reproduce the bug in detail.

Expected Behavior

MCPO serves up multiple N8N MPC endpoints each with a unique name so the end user knows which toolset they are enabling or disabling in OpenWebUI.

Actual Behavior

When MCPO serves up multiple N8N MPC endpoints it uses the servers name for each endpoint causing duplicate names to show in the OpenWebUI tool selector. N8N's MPC server reports its name as 'n8n-mcp-server' so each child service reports its name to OpenWebUI as 'n8n-mcp-server'. The server should use the key name or a specific name/title field in the config file to override the server name as shown to the user (or potentially create a name based on the top level name and the tool name).

Steps to Reproduce

No config file:
Create N8N MCP server.
Point mcpo at N8N server.
Connect OpenWebUI to mcpo, tool name will be 'n8n-mcp-server'
--name ignored 'n8n-mcp-server' always used
No way to change name from 'n8n-mcp-server'.

Config file:
Create N8N MCP server.
Point mcpo at N8N server.
Connect OpenWebUI to mcpo, all tool names will be 'n8n-mcp-server'
--name sets top level document with specified name.
All child services show 'n8n-mcp-server' as their name, no way to change.

Logs & Screenshots

What user sees in OpenWebUI
Image

Top level of MCPO. Name set via the --name which works correctly for the top level.

Child branches however show the server name returned by N8N. Notice two paths here /prompting and /text.

@rollingstone87 commented on GitHub (Apr 24, 2025):

yes, it's a big pain when connecting Openwebui to multiple n8n workflow or multiple google drive/sheets.

sourcres are all mixed because the server names are same.

It will be great to have a feature to manage the tool names.
