Problem Description

Currently you only open the API for Open WebUI style tools.

Tho for MCP clients like claude or github copilot, i would need to run the MCP servers in stdio, for each client i have.

Desired Solution you'd like

It would be very cool be be able to have one place where i deploy all my tools (mcpo) and use it on open-webui AND/OR on github copilot without having to run that stdio twice.

For the URL it could be like /<tool>/sse (and also excluded from the OpenAPI docs to avoid confusion for open-webui)

Alternatives Considered

I tried to run some MCP Server converter, to make the stdio to SSE.
Then connect the converted to mcpo, and also connect the converted to the others clients.

Tho this is an additional step i need to do + i can't have one exposed API for all my tools.

@limcheekin commented on GitHub (Jul 17, 2025):

That's exactly what I achieved by using a MCP gateway at https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge, but I'm failed to make it works with mcpo for the Virtual server endpoint which working fine with Cline and GitHub Copilot.

Perhaps this is the only way for now https://ibm.github.io/mcp-context-forge/using/clients/openwebui/

Hope this help.

@chrisranderson commented on GitHub (Oct 13, 2025):

Streamable HTTP has replaced SSE. That should probably be prioritized over SSE?

Edit: MCP is now supported natively in OWUI as of https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/releases/tag/v0.6.31.
