Confirmation

  • I have read and followed all instructions in README.md.
  • I am using the latest version of both Open WebUI and Ollama.
  • I have included the browser console logs.
  • I have included the Docker container logs.
  • I have provided every relevant configuration, setting, and environment variable used in my setup.
  • I have clearly listed every relevant configuration, custom setting, environment variable, and command-line option that influences my setup (such as Docker Compose overrides, .env values, browser settings, authentication configurations, etc).
  • I have documented step-by-step reproduction instructions that are precise, sequential, and leave nothing to interpretation. My steps:
  • Start with the initial platform/version/OS and dependencies used,
  • Specify exact install/launch/configure commands,
  • List URLs visited, user input (incl. example values/emails/passwords if needed),
  • Describe all options and toggles enabled or changed,
  • Include any files or environmental changes,
  • Identify the expected and actual result at each stage,
  • Ensure any reasonably skilled user can follow and hit the same issue.

Expected Behavior

When configuring the local mcpo in open-webui, every time a new conversation is started and the model is asked to call the mcp tool, the tool is now being called but no results are returned. However, checking the logs of the mcp service backend shows that the tool call was completed and returned, yet when viewed in open-webui, the content of the tool call is displayed as empty.

Actual Behavior

When configuring the local mcpo in open-webui, every time a new conversation is started and the model is asked to call the mcp tool, the tool is now being called but no results are returned. However, checking the logs of the mcp service backend shows that the tool call was completed and returned, yet when viewed in open-webui, the content of the tool call is displayed as empty.

Steps to Reproduce

My config with docker worked for a week with "openapi.json" endpoint. Then, stopped working after latest openwebui update.
mcpo:
container_name: mcpo

ports:
- "8000:8000"
environment:
- API_KEY=kxd
volumes:
- /data/Applications/openwebui/mcpo/config.json:/app/config.json
command: ["--port", "8000", "--api-key", "kxd", "--config", "/app/config.json"]
restart: unless-stopped

I found that tools from SSE MCPs do not load correctly when loaded via the config.json but if you specify the the MCP server as a command line switch it loads correctly.

Hello @anselor , I have the same issue loading tools in mcpo from grafana-mcp server. Can you give an example for the solution you had mentioned. That will be helpful. Thanks.
