Originally created by @silenceroom on GitHub (Feb 22, 2026).
Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/open-webui/open-terminal/issues/3

Environment:

  1. Open WebUI version 0.8.3 with doecker container
  2. Open_Terminal with docker container, persistent volume "/home/user" was mounted.
  3. Open WebUI connected with Open Terminal via "External Tools Server" with type of "OpenAPI". The verfication returns with "Connection Successful".
  4. Model used with Open Terminal: GLM-5, function calling mode: Native

Reproduce Steps:

  1. Attempted to create a file abc.text with content "chikawa is a good boy!" using write_file tool.
  2. Tool returned HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.
  3. Attempted alternative method using run_command to execute shell command.
  4. Command initiated (process ID: 361068d932d6) but subsequent calls failed.
  5. All subsequent API calls returned HTTP 500 errors.

Expected Behaviour:

  1. Create file success.
  2. LLMs returns with create file sccuess report.

Error Details:

HTTP error 500: Internal Server Error

While file creation failed, other attempt such as "list files" works perfect.

Other information:

  1. No "/home/user/.open_terminal" folder on the "open_terminal" docker volume.
  2. The deafult cli user can not create files via docker terminal. It works with sudo permission. After files created, the list file can retreive files sucessful.

Additional Information:

  1. Ask the model to create the file again with "sudo". The file was successfully created despite the HTTP 500 errors on subsequent API calls.
  2. The model tried different approach to create the file, not sure which one worked.

@silenceroom this should be resolved with the latest open terminal, confirmation needed here!

Thank you Tim. I can confirm the lateset image sovled the problem. Now once the tool was enabled with the model, it can create files wihtin the /home/user folder.
