Related questions: #203 and #241. This asks specifically about the ViT-L/14 checkpoint and the openai/clip-vit-large-patch14 conversion on Hugging Face.

We are evaluating a local image-editing pipeline for a potential commercial product, using authorized or synthetic portrait images. We want to distinguish internal product evaluation from academic-only research, and from commercial deployment or redistribution.

Could a maintainer please clarify:

  1. Which license applies to the original ViT-L/14 pretrained weights? Does this repository's MIT license explicitly cover those weights?
  2. Which license applies to the converted weights published at https://huggingface.co/openai/clip-vit-large-patch14, and where is the authoritative statement connecting that conversion to the original release?
  3. Do the applicable terms cover (a) internal local technical evaluation for a potential commercial product, (b) inference in a commercial application, and (c) bundling and redistributing the weights? These may be answered separately.
  4. If another publisher or rights holder must confirm the conversion's terms, please point to the appropriate project or contact.

A link to an existing authoritative statement would be sufficient. We are not treating the absence of a reply as permission, or assuming that a code license automatically resolves every checkpoint's terms. No private images, source code, logs, or customer information are included in this request.

Thank you.
