Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/Comfy-Org/desktop/issues/1194
App Version
[ComfyUI v0.3.38]
[ComfyUI_frontend v1.20.6]
[ComfyUI_desktop v0.4.51]
Expected Behavior
Here is the workflow running without issue on the Desktop UI

Actual Behavior
Here is the identical workflow, with identical parameters, running on the Web UI

etherRealMix was the model used in this specific example, but numerous other models was placed in the Load Checkpoint node with the exact same result.
The workflow did successfully run once somehow (as can be seen in the image in the "Save Image" node). However, subsequent runs would fail.
Restarting the Desktop UI, restarting the Broswer UI, or accessing the Brower UI on different computers does not resolve this issue.
Steps to Reproduce
Start ComfyUI Desktop
setup server
run workflow on Desktop without issue
run workflow on web UI with issue

--listen and --port settings were set, in order to access the Web UI from other machines. Nevertheless, the Web UI did connect to Comfyui without issue, all downloaded models can be seen in the load checkpoint node, and the workflow only failed on the KSampler step.

From Claude:
@Jeylu commented on GitHub (Jun 15, 2025):
I attempted to run the Web UI again after adding the Claude suggestions into logger.py. I also made another attempt after removing the "with self._lock:" line, as I'm not sure why that line necessary, and also tried to take off "(OSError, AttributeError)" to broaden the exceptions. The problem still persists, and the Desktop UI still behaves as expected while the Web UI is broken. I don't think Claude is correct this time.
On a side note, I also did a fresh install of Comfy-UI Desktop, and this also did not fix the issue.
@christian-byrne commented on GitHub (Jun 15, 2025):
Does removing/disabling rgthree solve it by chance?
@Jeylu commented on GitHub (Jun 15, 2025):
The issue remains even after uninstalling rgthree.
I also did test it with --disable-all-custom-nodes too, and the issue still remains. So I don't think any other node/node library caused this issue either...
Is the Server-Config option currently working for anyone else? If so, then it may be something with my setup? If not, then does anyone remember when Server-Config was working? If it used to work and doesn't now, then it may be possible to go back to previous builds and find out when it broke.
@Jeylu commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
As another update, I've installed Comfy-UI portable instead, copied over all the models and reinstalled all custom nodes, ran it with the settings I'm looking for (--windows-standalone-build --listen --port=8188 --enable-cors-header), and it worked without issue.
So as far as I can tell, there were no issues with Comfy-UI itself, my system/settings, the models I've used, or the custom nodes/libraries I'm relying on.
If anyone else is having this issue, then I'd suggest using the Comfy-UI Portable instead, at least until we can identify what parts of the Desktop is preventing the web-ui/remote access from working correctly.
@webfiltered commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
Ahh, were you running the Desktop app, then accessing the desktop ComfyUI instance via a browser instead? This isn't actively blocked, but also this is not something we actually test or maintain. The app is just meant to be used as the app.
So we can adapt better, would be great to know if you are you an existing Comfy user, or were guided to work with the desktop app in that way by something! Any info would help.
That said, we may begin blocking this later (same as other Electron apps), as it seems to cause confusion sometimes.
@Jeylu commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
Not quite. Rather than just wanting to access the desktop ComfyUI instance via a browser instead, it's more accurate to say that I wanted to make use of Comfy-UI on different computers on my local network, by adjusting the Setting/Server-Config/Network settings, as described here: https://comfyui-wiki.com/en/interface/server-config . That is meant to be supported, right?
However, if I wanted to use the Desktop as a server access its Comfy-UI on another computer, the only way to access the Comfy-UI on the remote computer would be through the browser Web app on the remote computer.
The Web app on the remote computers of course didn't work. However, even the Web app on the server computer is non-functional for the exact same reason, and I chose to highlight that on this bug report, as it's 1. easier to reproduce and 2. introduce less variables to test and 3. they are showing the exact same error, so if the Web app on the server is fixed, then remote Web apps would probably also be fixed.
@webfiltered commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
There is definitely no intention for the Desktop app to be used as anything but a desktop app. I can see how it would seem odd to have those settings there. By way of explanation, they are simply 1-to-1 exposed startup args of ComfyUI (edit: the desktop app was created long after ComfyUI). We should likely block this behaviour by default.
As it sounds like you now are running a normal ComfyUI server (ComfyUI portable), I'll close this off.
@webfiltered commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
@comfyui-wiki FYI! It may be a good idea to add a caveat on: https://comfyui-wiki.com/en/interface/server-config#network
Whilst we don't block the server from being accessed over the network, it's just not the intent of the Desktop app to be run as a server. Electron is not at all suited for this.
@comfyui-wiki commented on GitHub (Jun 18, 2025):
Ok, I'll add it to my website soon. I'm also updating the settings section on docs.comfy.org (Still draft now). Hope I can finish it this week, creating the images took a lot of time
