Hello
Adding Extra Model Paths in the new version , How?
@dosubot[bot] commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
Hi @seghier! I'm Dosu and I'm helping the Comfy Org team.
You can add extra model paths by editing the
extra_models_config.yamlfile located at:C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\ComfyUI\extra_models_config.yaml~/Library/Application Support/ComfyUI/extra_models_config.yamlIf the file doesn't exist, create it with a text editor. Use this YAML format [1]:
Or use absolute paths for each model type [2]:
After saving the file, restart ComfyUI Desktop for the changes to take effect [1].
Also, if you're on version 0.4.29+, there should be path configuration options available in Settings → System Paths that let you configure this without manual YAML editing [3].

@seghier commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
I did that but list of models always empty,
Is this need to update: shared_model_paths.yaml ?
@dosubot[bot] commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
@seghier No, you do not need to update
shared_model_paths.yaml— the desktop app does not use that file at all. It exclusively reads fromextra_models_config.yaml[1].Here are some things to check if your model list is empty:
Verify
extra_models_config.yamlpaths are correct — open the file (located in%AppData%\ComfyUI\on Windows) and make sure the directories point to where your models actually are. Typos or wrong drive letters will cause an empty list.Make sure subdirectories exist — models must be in the expected subdirectories (e.g.,
models/checkpoints/,models/loras/). If you're on an older version, the app won't create missing subdirectories automatically [2].Use the latest desktop version — there were fixes in early 2026 for absolute path handling [3] and auto-creation of missing model subdirectories [2]. Updating may resolve this.
Restart after changes — any edits to
extra_models_config.yamlrequire a full restart of the app.If you could share the contents of your
extra_models_config.yaml, it would be easier to spot any configuration issues.To reply, just mention @dosu.

Thanks @dosu
ComfyUI portable version load all models correctly from the same path

@dosubot[bot] commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
@seghier Your configuration looks correct, and the fact that it works fine in the portable version confirms the paths and YAML syntax are valid.
There's a known behavior difference in ComfyUI Desktop: the
extra_models_config.yamlis used for model discovery (finding already-existing models), but the DownloadManager validates against the default base path (C:\Users\pc\Documents\ComfyUI\models) rather than consulting alternate paths in your config [1]. This can cause issues when models are on a different drive.A couple of things to check:
Are models already on
D:\comfyui\models? If so, they should be discoverable and show up in node dropdowns. If they're still not appearing, try updating to the latest Desktop version — there were fixes for absolute path handling [2] and missing subdirectory issues [3] in early 2026.Are you trying to download models to
D:\? That's where the limitation exists — downloads will fail with a "not in models directory" error because the DownloadManager only recognizes the primary install path [1]. Workaround: download to the default path, then move them toD:\comfyui\models.Could you clarify whether the models already exist on
D:\comfyui\modelsand just aren't showing up in the UI, or is this a download-related issue? Also, which Desktop version are you on?To reply, just mention @dosu.

@dosu
The previous version of Comfyui desktop works fine, i installed the latest version yesterday with two instances: stable and nightly build
I set the path now from Desktop Settings, switch comfyui instance and it work
@dosubot[bot] commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
@seghier Glad you got it working! So to confirm — setting the model path through Desktop Settings (rather than manually editing
extra_models_config.yaml) resolved the issue and your models are now showing up correctly after switching instances.It sounds like with the latest version's multi-instance support (stable + nightly), the Desktop Settings UI is the reliable way to configure model paths. Thanks for sharing the solution — this should help others running into the same issue with the new version.

This must updated in the official website
@thijsi123 commented on GitHub (Jun 9, 2026):
I tried to do the same, but since I use the folder models/lora for my LoRA adapters/checkpoint models, I used to set:
comfyui:
base_path: G:/AI/SwarmUI/dlbackend/comfy/ComfyUI/
checkpoints: models/Stable-diffusion/
loras: models/lora/
in extra_model_paths.yaml
But now with the new comfyui desktop version, it doesn't work anymore, even manually manmually adding:
H:\AI\webui\models\Lora
H:\AI\webui\models\Stable-diffusion
doesn't seem to work... The LoRA loaders still try to fetch from the ipadapter folder, and I have no idea what folder the checkpoint loader is trying to use.
"C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\ComfyUI\extra_model_paths.yaml"
made sure to syslink: "C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\ComfyUI\models"
@shalola-author commented on GitHub (Jun 11, 2026):
this used to work just fine in extra_model_paths.yaml
i did as suggested inside the extra_model_config.yaml as suggested:
and it still doesnt load? please help me
@smurfboyyessir commented on GitHub (Jun 11, 2026):
Same issue for me. I have extra_model_paths.yaml working fine in old ComfyUI, but not working on Comfy Desktop, even using instance from latest nightly. I saw the path I set in extra_model_paths,yaml was prepopulated in desktop settings UI area, but even still, it does not recognize the folders.
@emptytriangle commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2026):
you cannot add extra model paths, it was broken in desktop release 1.0.13
