It doesn't run on my phone either (Redmi 8A running Android 10).
I had tried reinstalling the client from Google Play, which reset its settings, yet the issue remains; the app still crashes after showing the initial greeting screen for a split second.

I did some more testing, and it looks like the change that broke the app was between 4.8.21.0 and 5.0.0.2, as the former version still works, while neither of the 5.0.0.x releases do.

I can confirm that AmneziaVPN 5.x does not launch on Android TV 9.0.

Device information:

  • Device: Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro
  • Operating system: Android TV 9.0
  • CPU architecture: armeabi-v7a

Affected versions:

  • AmneziaVPN_5.0.0.5_android9+_armeabi-v7a.apk — does not launch
  • AmneziaVPN_5.0.0.2_android9+_armeabi-v7a.apk — does not launch

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install one of the affected AmneziaVPN versions.
  2. Open the Android TV application list.
  3. Select and launch AmneziaVPN.

Expected behavior:
The AmneziaVPN application should open normally.

Actual behavior:
The application does not open at all. No splash screen, black screen, error message, or application interface appears. After selecting the AmneziaVPN icon, the device remains on the Android TV launcher.

The APK installation completes successfully and the AmneziaVPN icon appears in the application list, but the application cannot be launched.

Previous working version:

  • AmneziaVPN_4.8.21.0_android9+_armeabi-v7a.apk works correctly on the same Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro.
  • Version 4.8.21.0 launches normally and can be used on this device.

The issue is present in both versions 5.0.0.2 and 5.0.0.5, while version 4.8.21.0 works correctly. This suggests that the regression was introduced somewhere between versions 4.8.21.0 and 5.0.0.2.

I can confirm the same issue on a Redmi 8A running Android 10.

AmneziaVPN 5.0.0.5 (armeabi-v7a) installs successfully, but the app does not launch. It immediately closes / fails to open.

An older version, 4.8.21.0, works on the same device, but Amnezia Free requires updating to the latest version, so downgrading is not a usable workaround.
